Just Got My 3870X2

Well i've locked my fan at 30% (same as the silent 2d setting), and its just done 20 loops of the crysis bench without batting an eyelid, max temp 83C on the 2nd core.

I can live with that :D

Dont forget some people class silent and quite different to other people, for some people a hair dryer may well be quiet whilst for others.. its a hair dryer :p

I think it all depends on the ambient noise in your case. If you have a case full of fans it will be pretty much silent against the background. If your watercooled like me it will stand out like a soar thumb. That said its not a harsh noise unlike some cards.

Aye the only other fan in my case is a Sharkoon 120mm and it's very quiet.

Easy tiger. I was under the impression that the X2 had the same an unit to the 2900 therefore I can understand why people would say it's loud as the 2900 was annoyingly loud but if it is as kylew says then I apologise ;)

Lol sorry, didn't mean to come across aggressively :)

It's just that people come here for advice and I've seen two posts on the X2 in this forum, one of which described it as being louder than a train and the other a leaf blower. Both were from people who do not even have the card and both are very wrong.

You shouldn't be "under the impression" though, as you had an X2 (so you said remember;)), so you should definately know if the cooler was the same as the one on your 2900, and if it was as loud. :)

bought an X2... tbh had to r.m.a this an appauling amount of times (4 in total, no joke). However, I've FINALLY managed to get a stable rig. roughly 500+ fps in source on aim maps. 300+ on Dust 2 with HDR lighting, full settings at 1024 res. Crysis, 1023 res. and all very high, perfectly playable, of course I want a few more fps here and there but who doesn't. When it works it's truly a dream card, I can certainly say I prefer this over my eVGA ultra I had. And I used to be an Nvidia fanboy until I had this baby.
