Hiya,

I'm looking at upgrading to an SLI setup on my Q6600 system. Does anyone know if the OcUK 8800 GTS 640:

would be OK to use in an SLI setup, alongside an existing Asus 8800 GTS 640? I don't really want to spend £250-300 when I can get away £176!

I believe with the 8000 series cards, you could get away with different manufacturers/makes so long as the chipset was the same but I was just checking in to see if anyone had any experience of this kind of setup.

Cheers

It will work fine.

As long as you match the cores (so both GTS 640's) you are fine.

You might want to consider selling your GTS 640 though and going SLi 8800GT's instead.

Would work out at a similar cost to you and be faster, cooler, and use less power.

Keep an eye on the sale section, I picked up my second BFG OC2 for £135 a while back in there.

Even £170 would be cheaper than buying 2 x GT's at at least £130 each. As long as you have a decent brand PSU, I dont see power being an issue.

Thanks HeX, that's what I thought. I had considered selling it and getting a pair of 8800 512 GT's but the missus is particulary against me spending any money but I guess I'll have to sneak one somehow!

Cheers

No it wouldn't as you'd sell the 8800GTS 640 (get £100 for it at least), then put the £170 you were going to pay for the 8800GTS 640 towards it that gives you £270.

More than enough for 2 x 8800GT's and you've only actually paid out the same ammount.
