As title really, will 2 dd maze 5 gpu blocks fit on a 3870x2?

Fancy getting one of these cards but dont really wanna have to run the standard cooler as im run water. Also dont wanna buy a full cover block for around £80

Thanks.

More than likely will, the problem however is that by not running a full cover block you are going to also need to cool the PCI bridge chip, all the power regs, and the memory.

No problem finding ram heatsinks & ether a cluster of ram heatsinks on the bridge chip or a NB/SB heatsink+thermal pad on it.

exactly, ive got loads of ram sinks knocking about so that shouldnt be a problem.

Are the mounting holes for each core the same as on the x1900 series and the standard 3870?

Yep.
Just been googling & found some one using Swiftech MCW60R VGA Waterblock on it so it must be the same.

The Maze 4 doesn't fit which means its not using the X1900 mounting holes. Just tried aligning mine and the holes are closer together.

I will have one of these on mine ;

Damn. im sure they will make ones that do fit.
Maze 5 Best blocks i have ever used.

I reckon you could bodge it by bending the bars but .......

I'm probbaly going to shoot for a EK full cover block. This card might just be a keeper for once in my life.

Seriously though. Is it really that good? Not taking the mick, just genuinely curious.

Honestly i'd say yes it is, the only bad thing I could say about the card is the noise of the cooler when it spins up, but if you are slapping water on it, or fix the fan speed at 30% that negates that 'problem' and the card is awesome.

(and i've come from a GTX + GTS512)

I have only been playing a couple of games NWN2 and Hellgate but the card certainly performs much better than my OC GTS 512 ( 800/2200 ) and my old GTX. I have had no slow downs / lag and the IQ in Hellgate is much better. Water and Fog is much better and the portals are actually rendered correctly.

It's a very good card that will only get better with driver releases.

Crossfire works well.

The only thing that lets it down is the noise. Just a tad more noisy than I like but thats coming from a totally silent water cooled rig. It's easy to forget that there's 2 GPU's in there so it would never have been silent.

The X2 is a great product and cannot be beaten for the price.
