My Vista installation wakes from sleep at exactly 8am every day. I don't know why, but I don't want this to happen.

I had a look in the task scheduler to see if media center is trying to update the TV guide, but none of the the tasks have the option 'wake the computer to run this task' ticked.

Any ideas what else I can check?

i finally worked out what woke my work computer up each day at 6pm. I leave work at 530, put the computer to sleep but every morning i come in it's switched back on. From the event log it was always at a very similar time. Turns out the cleaners were moving the mouse when they cleaned my desk!

I now turn my mouse off each night and it no longer happens!

Yep Home premium with media center setup.

Funnily enough I thought it was my wireless mouse at first - but I thought starting at exactly 8am twice in a row was too much of a coincidence.

I think I've traced it to the media center guide download. The first thing mentioned at 8am after boot up in the logs is a process called 'ehsched.exe'. Some google searching found this utility: http://www.avsoft.nl/Tools/guidedltime/

Which sounds about right - I've given it a go, will see tomorrow whether it's worked!

This is why I asked if you have media centre.

The time change tool only works out of the box with XP MCE, under Vista you also need to disable one of the scheduled takes, which is used in the US to update content. If you do not disable the task it resets the registry key that the guide time change tool alters each time the task runs. So effectivly nothing will change

I will check when I get home which one it is.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I did have a look at every task scheduled, but couldn't see any that had 'wake up' ticked.

The Scheduled task is "MCUPDATE"

This is located in TaskSheduler/Microsoft/Windows/Media Centre

Disabling this will not stop the guide being updated etc. It relates to online content that is only available in the US at the moment.

Once you disable this task, reboot and then run the tool that you have to change the download time.
