Well some of you might have seen my posts asking about overclocked Q6600 temps.

So you all know I was running a AC7 Pro in a Lian Li case with 4 80mm fans and I was getting these temps running at 3.45gig

Toasty!

And now running at 3.5gig
This time I'm running a proper cooler (Tuniq Tower 120) running only at 1350rpm so much quieter than the AC7Pro.
I also now have an Antec 900 case with the two optional extra 120mm fans. The case is still amost silent, all fans are at low speed setting.

Thats better!

Not using the same temperature software = fail :p

lol it makes no difference as they read exactly the same as each other. I don't use coretemp because for some reason it does not run unless I disable driver signing, while CPUID Hardware monitor does!

Edit, to prove the point. I just got CoreTemp again and took a screenshot of them both at the same time

A different chip .

How come the VID is different in the 2 posts ?

I thought that the VID remained at a set figure depending on the chip.

It's the same chip and the same vcore in the bios, it fluctuates in CPU-Z just like all motherboards. The latter pic shows the chip at idle and therefore speedstep has kicked in and reduced the clock speed.

1.2625 > 1.1625 V ?

The VID doesn't change on mine , regardless of idle/load or speedstep .

Must be something wrong with your motherboards then because it clearly does on mine... or certainly it jumps from 1.34v to 1.4v under load.

Coretemp is reading the VID wrong anyway. So not only does it need a reboot, it gives inaccurate results. The HWMonitor program is showing the same kind of VID readings CPU-Z does.

If I could record a video of my screen I'd show you :)

^ I'm very calm, just take exception when you start talking carp by saying our mainboards must be rubbish

If it was rubbish, it would have gone back a long time ago seeing I paid over £100 for it.

Was just trying that. I pressed F9 to record a movie and nothing happened. Got to go now but will try again tomorrow night!. It jumps from 1.33v at idle to 1.4v under load in Prime95 torture.

We're not talking about that, it's the VID, your first shot shows a VID of 1.2625V, you're second shows a VID of 1.1625V.
