Seems the monitor forums are a bit dead and probably better to ask here...

Currently running a 21" 1600x1050 panel from my GTX8800.

Want to run all games at native res (WoW, Supreme Commander, CoD4 MS Flight Sim and probably a few new titles over the next year)...

Will the 8800GTX cope at 2x1920x1200 (24" panels) or would I be better off getting 2 22" Panels (2x1600x1050)?

1920 EZ nuff said.

I ran 2 x 1680 x 1050 from my GTX. Sup Com ran fine but that was harder on the CPU than the GPU. haven't run any of the other games on dual screens, sorry.

At the higher res you may have to mess about with (read: lower) the Graphics settings with the most GPU demanding Games but it should cope with most fine.

2x 24" panels proberbly would require more power than one GTX could put out for some games. check out the 3870X2.

Option to get a 2nd 8800GTX is non existant at present. My choice is 2x 22" 1600x1050 Samsung panels, or 2x 24" 1920x1200 OCUK Value panels...

Most games will be played single screen. Supreme Commander and Flight Sim will be twinscreened.

Why would one GTX not cope with two 24" monitors?

He isn't going to double the res while playing games only stretch it over 2 screens.

which will double the res if he's playing at native res of the panels, which any sane person in this situation would do.

In that case you should be fine - just don't go expecting most recent games to run at full wack across both screens at native res, with 60+ fps, as its not going to happen....At least, its not going to happen consistently, and there's nothing worse than an inconsistent frame rate.

For games like Supreme Commander you should be fine as its very CPU dependant and pretty soft on the graphics card.

For flight sim games, again should be fine provided you have a beefy CPU. Most people playing flight sim games don't normally have full visuals on both screens, do you? sorta like ya flight map and what not on one and where you're going on the other, in any case I'm sure it would be fine as games like Flight Sim X are sorta made with the intention of running dual screen.

no you use 2 monitors for work and stuff, gaming you use one, because you cant run 3840*1200 properly with most games unless you play old games, but it would suck

Unlike most games SupCom and FSX both support proper dual display where the screens stays as seperate displays and the game renders seperate windows to each. Both screens stay at their native res and nothing is stretched. It's quite different to using a single spanning 3840*1200 desktop, and it's probably nearly double the rendering work versus a single screen.

Having said all that I've played SupCom dual-display I found myself not actually using the second screen much if at all (had my map blown up big on it).
