I was wondering if someone could provide me with some advice.

I'm seriously considering getting the above car, but it will have to wait until next year, that way i'll be 22 and have 2 years no claims (touch wood) to atleast get me a reasonable insurance quote.

I'd rather not dish out 12-14k cash. So I was wondering what would the majority of you do? Bank loan or car finance?

You'd rather not, or you dont have the cash?

Unless your cash is invested in something giving you a return of more than 6-7%, cash is the best way to buy it.

Cash for an older car, probably around 6-7k

Think it might be best to give it two years rather than one, i'm just in one of those impulse moods where I don't want to wait hence getting a few opinions first.

Just out of interest, if I where to finance a car for around 12k, would I expect to be paying in the area of 350-400p/m ?

Tell me about it, everywhere is "Q" a couple of them are "P" which I doubt makes much of a difference.

If you want to drive a proper fast car over here its not really worth it untill you get past 25. So i'll stick with my GT for now, and maybe a GT4 in a few years time, if they arn't all fubared.

Go onto AA if you win the lottery though, they'll happilly quote you over 6 grand. Its there way of saying **** off.

If you've got the cash already, and don't have anything better to spend it on (like a house/holidays/business etc) then buy it outright.

I was quoted, by my old insurance company who most of my family uses, 8k for a Mazda MX3 2 years ago. :/

It's the only thing stopping me getting one. Would love one but they are daft to insure. 240bhp Honda £800ish, 320BHP BMW £500. It's nuts.

Power and insurance cost aren't directly proportional.

The S2000 has a very high claim history due to a lot of them being crashed

Agreed. I am tossing up between an S2000 and a VX220 (possibly turbo) and insurance was:

21 +2 years ncb + mother on policy

VX220 2.2 N/A = £1200 with exhaust mod
VX220 2.0 Turbo = £1350 with exhaust mod
S2000 VTEC = £2950 with no mods

All from one the same website, postcode and value of car to give you a better idea... I live in an "A" insurance postcode making it the cheapest quote? so good luck mate :D

I would be silly to choose an S2000 over a 2.0 Turbo as I could spend the insurance saved on a full larani exhaust system, decat and remap stage 2 turbo :D

I too have found S2000's insane on the insurance front, its a shame as i like them, they are quite cheap now, and i fancy a convertible for the summer.

To put into perspective, i can insure a Porsche 911 C4 Cabrio for around £100 less than an S2000
