Looking to head up north this weekend with the lady and looking for some things to do an a northern city.

Looking to stick to Leeds/ Manc/ York/ Liverpool area.

Saturday we are in Leeds for the day (due to friend's birthday on Friday), but Sunday, we have a free reign of the North!

Where should we go and what should we do?

Thanks

Come to York. It's a brilliant city, loads to see - York dungeons, Castle Museum, Jorvik center, York Minster, great shops, lots of little back streets full of one off type shops. And fantastic pubs and bars, many just off the river - gorgeous to sit out and have dinner or a drink. Really romantic type location too if it's that kind of weekend :D

Spend the extra few bucks and go to Newcastle/Gateshead. Not only is it a great 'party city', but there's loads of new things to see and do if you're not into that kind of scene, plus the shopping is great and the people are, mostly, lovely! :)

Man I miss my home town...

Leeds is an awesome night out, but yea don't go to York for a night out, it's almost non existent. Very romantic city in certain ways as said though so could be ideal to take the missus for one of those weekends ;)

I can also recommend some good Hotels

Yeah, York is really quaint, but if you want bars and clubs etc, might not be the best place.

Also, I believe my adopted hometown of Cardiff are playing the Boro away this weekend so it might be busy!

Liverpool > Manchester for a night out. I cant imagine a night out in York being much kop tbh, it was really sleepy there when I visited although there were some good pubs about.

I wouldn't mind sampling the nightlife in Newcastle tbh, heard plenty of good things about it.

You'll not find a better northern city to visit during the day than York in my opinion. Lots of interesting things to see and do, far more than Leeds and Manchester for example.
