I just presumed it'd be the same in Dublin - whereby 08 meant 08

I was obviously wrong then.

First 08 car in Dublin was an R8 once I came back hehe!

I merely presumed that the car was 08 due to it only being bought on the 2nd of Jan...

I think we are talking "**08***" reg plates here. A car on the 2nd Jan in the UK would be a **57***

Yes, I evidently didn't understand the whole numberplate convention in England/Scotland. I barely knew that having a 57 meant it was a 2007 car.

In Northern Ireland, I have no clue either how the number plate system works either, and I have lived there for the best part of my life!

In Dublin, if the car is bought/registered in 2008, then you get a "08 - D - ****" , with the number of * dependent on the number of cars in that county registered so far that year.

For example, a M3 which lives relatively close to me in Rathmines has a "03 - D - 123" which I guess is as close to a personalised numberplate as you're going to get here!

No, it must have been on trade plates but it did have 08 normal plates on it. I'm not sure why they're pre-registered but i've seen a few round here like that.

Seen a few, first was an 08 Kia Picanto at a dealers where i'm getting the Focus From.. also an Audi R8 and a Renault Megane..
