Do OcUK only accept ratings over 4 stars? I have posted a few ratings over the last 12 months that were factual but were only 2 or 3 stars - these were never accepted. I have browsed through the products and most are rated at 5 stars with the odd one or two rated at three or four, this seems to be very unrealistic. Is this a true representation of the reviews?

I noticed this - reviews play a very important part of what a product is like to own if that makes any sense.

I always now read reviews from OcUK's rivals in order to help me decide on components, which then makes me stay on rivals' webpages. It surely would make sense putting all sorts of reviews on there as well. (I've also noticed that some of the time people buy components without really understanding all the *jargon* that comes with them or other trivial things e.g. XYZ won't fit in my case is perhaps something that I can ignore). Point is it helps me make my mind up.

I have to agree, its pretty seedy.

But at the end of the day they are a company designed to make money, and i think a lot of people forget that. Yes they provide this nice forum for us to talk on, and they give better support than most, but at the end of the day they arent going to let you say anything that will stop people spending money in their shop.

I can absolutely confirm that that statement is completely false. I know you only have my word but when I worked for OcUK & vetted the reviews I authorised every genuine review whether it had 1 or 5 stars. We have to vet them as you don't half get some people putting rubbish through.

If the review is genuine it gets put on the site, that is company policy. I certainly wouldn't trust an etailer with just 4/5 star reviews only!

And then theres the factor of a user who may have a faulty product or it doesn't perform how they thought it would.
eg http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-161-IN&tool=3

Here we have 5 star reviews but I personally don't think I've had a massive increase over my P4 3.6.
I could easily have give it 1 star but who is right?
Well personally I reckon all the 5 stars are because I don't overclock and therefore not getting the best out of it.

I have checked different sections and I have found no negative reviews, everything seems to have 5 stars. I have posted reviews on a competitors site and they have always been published.

If the review is about the product and it is based on the users experience then it should be published. Also, user reviews subjective, I purchased a Samsung DVD writer because I read that it was very quiet, The one that I purchased was very noisy. I posted my experience of the drive and it has not been published.

Can someone from OcUk please comment.

Thankyou

I never read user reviews unless it's for a product I know I'm going to buy after reading website reviews because after working in technical support I know how easy it is to get a great product but your particular one is faulty or dodgy or configured incorrectly etc and gets bad rep from that one person.

That's my take on it but it would be nice to see everyones bad reviews too to see if there are trends to receiving a bad product from numerous faulty batches etc.

And theres your answer :
You must have had a faulty product so its pointless putting the review on the site.

lol
Because it's a bit noisy it's faulty! Don't be silly, I too got a Sammy Writemaster that is 'supposed' to be very quiet. Well it's actually probably the nosiest ROM I have ever had tbh, but apart from that it's superb and burns extremely well.
Censoring reviews is utterly lame tbh and it's no surprise overclockers have got such a bad reputation on the internet when they do stuff like this.

Just a few that I myself have authorised;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-117-LG&tool=3 - 5th review down

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-055-MS&tool=3 - 1st one

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-015-SK&tool=3 - 4th one down

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-020-LG&tool=3 - 7th & 8th ones

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-001-MS&tool=3 - 1st one

As you can see this is just from a couple of sections, I'm not about to go through the lot. I hope I've made my point & would like an aknowledgement please :)

JediFragger, as a Don can you shed any light on whether there has been an "official" shift in attitude down the corridors of power to now allow constructive debate, regardless of whether it is all positive?

I can't mate as I no longer work at OcUK just Don'age on here. You're best to email one of the higher-ups for clarification :)

Surely the Don's would have been given instruction as how to deal with threads like this and yesterdays thread regarding the "overclocked" CPU's?

Thanks !

Sorry man, I can't control how people review lol

But I can tell you if they're genuine product reviews they get authorised (and the ****heads get deleted)

No problem here! Can't say that I ever use the customer reviews for buying advice, I prefer to use many review sites around.

At the end of the day, OcUK is here to make money. I wouldn't expect them to tell us that products aren't great, but I also wouldn't expect to be misled. If products don't sell due to negative reviews across the net, OcUK will just stop selling them. Only the strong survive (most of the time... PhysX...).
