As some of you guys may recall my previous thread on never having worn a suit, then buying one, only to go through a phase of panic of my first ever 'proper' interview.

I've waited over 2 months and I lost hope, I was just about to start re-applying because the procedure was taking so long and I needed a backup placement job in case anything had gone wrong.

Today morning, I received a call from BMW and it seems I shall be spending a full year at the BMW Mini plant in Oxford, on their latest Software Engineering orientated project. Wow is all I can say!

On my interview, I developed a application in a completely new environment for them in less than 2 hours and they really liked it. It's a new project they're working on and the environment seems nice in an open office. I can't get over it. It was my first interview, I was the first candidate and I was the one and only selected for it.

However, having to move away to Oxford on my own is just really daunting. I'm been looking at a few places and it's fairly expensive in comparison to Sheffield. Seem like I'll be just getting by on my wage. I'd appreciate any advice from you southerners on moving!

I'd like to thank everyone who has offered me moral support and advice on the interview (oh and the suit!). A fantastic bunch, you all know who you are. Thanks!

:)

Congrats on getting the job - automotive IT is an interesting sector (currently at Jaguar/Land Rover myself - think we're still making panels for your place).

Might be worth looking at accomodation in Banbury - approx. 20 miles from Oxford, just off the M40.

Congrats and as mentioned above a house share would be a good option for you. Just need my job now lol

Living costs mainly, where to start in terms of looking for ideal apartment/house! Any other advice is also welcome :)

Thanks :)

Well I'm just a smelly student so I can't really give advice for stuff like that :) Hopefully someone in the Oxford area pops in.

For accommodation I would start by calling the universities' (oxford and oxford brooks) accommodation department and ask about a list for uni approved landlords or their websites where students go on the advertise to ask for roommates. Estate agents should be the last thing really.

Careful, you migth end up paying 75% council tax on the whole building.

When i did my placement (which i found myself AFTER my degree but before my post grad diploma), I was still registered as a Student in Plymouth so have a Student ID. If OP can/are able to do the same then he might not have to pay Council tax.

Gratz on the job dude.

IMO you should stay clear of student accommodation. Last thing you want is your housemates coming home at 3am if you have an important meeting the next day. I'm sure Oxford will have plenty of houseshares for professional people knocking around somewhere.
