Having recently given my Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451 19" CRT to my better half, I am in the market for a new monitor, for the first time in eight (8) years... And I'm confused! :D

I have a 512MB 8800GTS already, so depending on games (sim racing with bit of UT3 right now), I should be able to manage 1900x1200, which puts me in the market for a 24" LCD.

However, it would be useful to be able to drop the resolution and still have a nice image quality (1600x1050?), for more demanding games.

In my confused state, I'm thinking of possibly an OCuk 24", or a Benq 241W 24"... which covers quite a range of squids!

Gaming is by far the highest priority, seconded by web browsing, so I'm concerned about input lag mainly.

Any ideas, please?

Tbh, for gaming if input lag / general lag / tearing is of any concern you'd be a madman to go for any 24" over a 22" 2ms overdriven screen, even if the viewing angles aren't ideal.

All I play is games and no probs with the Ocuk. My friends that have also got the screen have no probs either. If you want to find tearing etc, you'd have to be really looking for it.

samsung 245B, HP2408H, BenQ 241W or the non HC dells if you want a 24 inch for gaming and a graphics card good enough to play at a 1900 x 1200 res. Otherwise I would go with bobs suggestion of a 22" monitor.

All the 22" monitors with low response times have inferior picture quality to the better 24" monitors. They sacrifice image/colour quality and viewing angles for slightly faster response time. And whats 4 - 6ms difference compared to the 24" monitors. It's nothing.

I'd go for 24" any day. Personally i consider 22" 1680x1050 res to be too low, dont even have enough pixels for 1080p HD video to be displayed properly.

the "better 24" monitors" have 30/40/50 ms input lag ;)
you can get 22" and 24" TN panels with next to none, or actually none with the iiyama
if gaming is a priority then pva panels should be avoided imo.

Are TN panels better for gaming then?

Only ask as in the OCUK24" thread they are all sending the TNs back for a VA.

Probably getting one end of the month.

So, to sum it up, is it right to assume that the Iiyama E2201W is the leader in the gaming 22' monitors?
I once found a Iiyama E2202 monitor, with 5ms. It is a different monitor, right? And probably should be avoided?

If you're going from a CRT (especially an Iiyama one) to an LCD and you're serious about gaming I'd probably avoid any of the 24 inch VA panels. Yes they have better viewing angles and colour reproduction but after 8 years playing on a CRT you will probably notice the difference (especially in terms of input lag). That may or may not put you off.

So for that reason, the Iiyama E2201W-1 (zero input lag) 22 incher gets my vote.

This is clearly a guy in the know :D good advice imo

HP w2207h

Iiyama E2201W

LG L227WT

Samsung 226BW

ViewSonic VX2255wm

All 22 inch and awesome for games tbh, good reviews for all from various sites and from personal comments for their gaming potential.

Iiyama E2201W-1 22" monitor is best in market for gaming at moment i think it has like 0 lag

how ever if you see they made Iiyama E2201W-2 22" LCD witch i didnt see any reviews on it and i dint see were to buy one so its pretty new

Went to the Iiyama website today...

http://www.iiyama.com/en_GB/Products/category/0

...and found that they now have two 24" models with promising game response times:-

PLB2403W-B1 has 3ms (offers totation and swiffle of screen)
ProLite E2403WS-1 has 2ms

I have not come across reviews for either of these new models, but the specs look good!

Oh no, I'm just a pretender. The real 'know-it-all' is Baddass. In fact, If I had any say in the matter, I'd give him an MBE (or perhaps a sticky gold star) for services rendered.

UTmaniac, I don't know if this is the exact same model but I suggest you have a look here:

http://www.behardware.com/articles/680-6/lcd-24-iiyama-b2403ws-samsung-245t.html

Quote from the review:"Launched at a recommended price of 499 euros, it combines almost everything needed for a versatile screen except very large viewing angles. Otherwise, in terms of ergonomics, reactivity, default colors, price and design, it was well conceived. Currently, it is the least expensive on the market, however, soon other screens could go even lower with the possibility of a 24 inch for 399 euros between now and Christmas. Just don’t expect calibrated rendering or such ergonomics as the B2403WS’."
