Item a no-show from a Jersey shop?

I don't want to break the rules here so PLEASE keep the competition mentioning to ZERO.

Basically, I bought a £45 earphones, Goldring GX200 from them and it was supposedly posted on the 25th Feb. It's been 11 days so far and it's a no show. I've ordered 3 items AFTER the "posted" earphones and they've since arrived.

Now I'm having to wait another 10 days to comply with their 21days "Item not received" policy. I'm annoyed as I'd rather have the item or return it immediately, get my money back as I'm pretty much skint.

One thing I really don't understand is, WHY oh WHY do they insist on printing the items value outside the package?! I've a feeling the item would have come through my post IF its pricing wasn't printed outside, tempting the dishonest post-man among the good. This is first single high value item I've bough from them. Argh!

What are your experience with them on higher valued items? Was it good or bad? If bad, did you ever get your refunds or a re-posted item? (having to wait 21 days is quite disgraceful for an item I've paid immediately)

Maybe because it's the law? Unless you want customs going through your stuff, and tbh more stuff gets nicked & lost that way.
 
apart from posting from within the UK VAT area theres no way they can get away with not printing it on the outside so its either live with it or pay more and the 21days is an RM thing more than a company policy
 
So help me understand; IF the item is "lost in post", how would that shop verify with Royal Mail that it is actually "lost" and not the buyer being dishonest? If the item IS stolen by a mail man, as the item isn't recorded, how can they prove it?
 
Not a clue im not sure but ive got a feeling they send the more valuable items with signed for delivery so RM can tell if its arrived
 
If it's the shop I think it is, an item worth £45 would have been sent by recorded delivery. Something I received a couple of days ago for £35 was.

Well, the max I've really ordered per item was £29.99 and it's a game; no recorded delivery. I know somewhere it's stated that anything above £75 is sent recorded or by another carrier or something.

Anyway, if it were sent recorded, its obviously not reached me - no one signed anything.

Edit: Actually, I've ordered a £38 item, a router and it definitely wasn't sent recorded.
 
I've ordered a PS2 from them back in the day that came recorded.

All the smaller stuff has always just been standard 1st class.

Yeh, something is posted from Abroad, they need to describe the contents (usually put "Optical media") and they need to state the value of it for Tax/Duty.

Pretty sure the recipient is responsible for the item too, so if they mismark it, or undervalue it, you're responsible. (might not me 100% true, but IIRC)
 
The sender can pre-pay vat under some circumstances, and a couple of online stores do that (if they do pre-pay vat they have it noted on the customs declaration, along with a number for the company).

A 21 day wait is a bit longer than is normally the case, but is understandable given that customs can sometimes end up delaying stuff for a week or two, even when it's under the limit.

Does that mean there might just be a chance that the item is still stuck in customs?
 
Dunno if it will turn up or not... I don't have a massive amount of faith in Royal Mail these days. However, I had to contact that same shop when a game didn't turn up and they simply took my word for it and sent a replacement on the 21st day. It was the 1st thing I'd ever bought from them too. I was so impressed with the fact that (apart from waiting 21 days) it was so straight-forward, that I've bought several hundreds pounds worth of stuff from them over the years since.
 
I've got a set of those brand new in a box you can have for now. you could send me the new set if/when it arrives or cancel it and buy these off me when you get paid or whatever.

good phones :) I have another set that i use all the time.

Thanks for the offer, will keep in mind - will wait and see how it goes.

From what GarethDW said, I'd wait till the 21st day, report it and hopefully item arrives before the end of the week. I've purchased hundreds of pounds of stuff off them, all small items tho, first time ever, an item does a no-show and from expectation and anticipation, it felt like a big let down by them (and Royal Mail if it isn't the customs fault).
 
They have a tiered system. I don't know the exact figures but items up to £30 are normal delivery, up to £75-£100 recorded, above £75-100 are sent via CityLink.

I bought my TV with them and they sent it via CityLink.
 
If you're on about the jungle store, then I havn't had an experience in not receiving any high value goods from them. I have however, had a problem with a digicam ordered through a marketseller. I had to fax them my bank statements to prove that I was charged, but the marketseller didn't even post out the item so I didn't have to deal with "lost in post" theories.

I have had experience not receiving a DVD from HMV (not a competitor). I think they operate in Jersey too, so not sure if you're on about them. Took me about 2 weeks to get a replacement sent out after a few calls to their customer services department, and they had the cheek to re-charge me. They blamed the Post Office and wanted me to call my local sorting office to chase it up and send the original item back, did just that and they had nothing. HMV even insisted Royal Mail kept records of everything handled, verified this with Royal Mail and they don't (or didn't at the time). Ended with me writing to HMV head office to get my refund. Whole process took about 2 months.

I wouldn't pin the absence of your item to the labelling of it's value on the package though.
 
Don't worry I regularly do business with Jersey shop and sometimes games arrive within 3 days to Belgium other times it can take nigh on 2 weeks.

I'm sure it depends on what customs have on their plate at the time.

Letters posted from Scotland arrive in 48 hours just for comparison.

Not talking about that rainforest place; rarely deal with them but when I do, they're often recorded deliveries and quite prompt too (with them directly, not traders)

I've ordered 3 other times AFTER that £45 items was posted and they all arrived before it, so I highly doubt it's the customs unless they selectively delay specific packages? (One of the 3 items was a big parcel containing a hoodie)
