Ok, so I am bored. After trying SLI some time ago, said would not bother with dual card configs again... but I have not tried crossfire...

Anyway, if I found 512MB 2900 Pros with 256 bit interface for same price as 256MB 3850's, and only require one power connector, would it be worth trying a couple out?

I thought Pros could be flashed to be an XT. Not sure about the 256 bit versions though.

Basically the 2900XT is still just a power hungry, loud version of the 3870.

Don't know which would be better though, 2900 Pro or 3850. Look up reviews and see which is better :)

No, just get 3870XT's you can pick em up for like £110 these days.

That would work out £50 more.

The 256 Bit versions can't be flashed to XT speeds, but do apparently OC to near XT speeds.

Power consumptions also appears to be lower then the 512 bit Pro/XT's from what I have read, and I guess this would also be indicated in the single power connection reuired for each card...

Have read "user" reviews of people who have gone from 256MB 3850 to one of these and been happy with the swap.

Oh, another thing is I have a P35 board, which means will start getting bandwidth starved on 2nd PCIE slow at 4X, so anything over 3850 levels is probably going to start showing large losses.
