DP (oldskool Swedish Bike Builder, lived in the states for years and has the magic touch) on Retro-rides.com's new project:

LTO - Left-Turn-Only.

Ciao Retroisti...

It has been a while, I have done some serious house remodelling that has used up both times & funds but lately I have been collecting some parts and once again I feel the need, the need to create....

A couple of pix from last night when I had a Cuba Libre with my Babe....

For those who don't know, The LTO Project is based on the last year of the upright 4-valve Java 500cc Speedway motor (97 rear wheel horses) and a late 90's ESO frame, the look will be in the 70's "skinny bike" tradition with 19" rear & 23" front wheels (quite large) but it's almost impossible to pigeon hole this ride, it's a DP Race Tech original....

DP says: Hopefully it will turn it's wheels in anger later this summer....

terraroot in da house:
97bhp!!!!!! you are gonna detune it right? ethnol?

NO!!!!! It runns on methanol like all Speedway bikes and I will not detune it, sure it will not be a bike to go longer tripps on since it has no gerabox and just a clutch but I have a 2-speed Ice racing box that I just might use, we'll see......

DP says: This little 97bhp / 90kilo monster will ROCK......

Thats got a trip to the hospital in several boxes written all over it.

I like the idea though ;)

I've worked on a Java motor like that, absolutely bonkers bits of kit. Ace bike, too :D - love to build up something like that. I'd probably kill myself on it though :p

He should get it in BSH! :D

It's JAWA not Java. I can't see an engine in that state of tune being very useful for a road bike.

For both points, I can only answer "He's Swedish".

[Edit: a hardtail bike isn't 'useful' on the road...Nor is one with a tiny tank...Nor one that runs on methanol...]

Lots of custom hardtail bikes around though. Not my thing really, but with a fat rear tyre they can't be *too* bad on smooth roads, can they?

Fine for eating up the miles doing interstate runs in the US, I suppose.

Not really practical in the UK though.

it's not exactly ground breaking or all that mad if you look into speedway circles. methanol is where it's at. :)

*Dan wanders off to ponder if he could get his CBR to run on methanol....*

I haven't seen a road bike running a skinny frame and hot speedway meth mill...

Have you?

a kid i used to go to school with used to run his methanol speedway bike on the road. not being a national rider he was on kit probably older than in the OP. he was a bit mad though.

no link... didn't have t'internet in them days. :)

it was illegal to ride on the road mind you - just as boyo's one above would be in the UK. ;)
