Got my powercolor 3870x2 yesterday, ive just run 3dmark06 and got a score of 12158 which seems low to me for the rig in my sig. All settings in 3dmark are at defaults. When monitoring with rivatuna it looks like my gpu is going back to 2d clock speeds at times during the test.

Is this the powerplay issue?

What drivers are you using?

With the 8.2s i was getting 17800 with spec in sig, whereas when i use the 8.3s i get 12000.

Haha, i have no idea. I may go for a reinstall of the drivers to see if i can sort it out. In game performance is fine in Crysis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R and CSS so i am presuming it could be powerplay kicking in, possibly the same issue as the OP.

Im using 8.3s, not tried with 8.2s

I think its during the tests aswell as it appears to be in 2d mode for longer than it takes to load each individual test

My GTS at 650 core gets the same result as 800 (maybe 300 more), guess I need a new processor but im waiting for something special, like the next Q6600.

just put 8.2 cats on and i get 16003 in 06 which sounds more like it to me :) 8.3's were a pain the ass to uninstall aswell, kept getting rundll errors.

If the 8.2s work fine in my games i'll be sticking with them till 8.4 comes out

8.3s are better in games though, just a 3dmark06 bug in the 8.3s
I only got 113** in Xp64, then run it in Vista and got just short of 14k.
My cpu is at 3.3ghz

Me too, 3Dmark06 scores are hugely improved with a better cpu it seems. With your GTS@800 and a quad@4ghz you'd see around 16k.

If it's any consolation I had the exact same experience as you

true, 8.3s are better in games, so im back using them now :p ut3 kept crashing with the 8.2s. Never crashed when i had the 8.3s before and just been playing for about 2 hours now using the 8.3s again with no problems :)

Same here too, much lower score when i upgraded to the newer 8:3 so rolled her back to previose driver 8:2

Amazing how one driver release can have such a big impact. Tbh i would rather my 3DMark score kept getting lower with each driver release if it meant that my gaming performance increased.

Will have to see whether ATi bring out a hotfix(which i doubt as bringing that out for 3DMark would be pointless hard work imo) or if the 8.4s rectify the 3DMark issue and continue to improve gaming performance.

I found that my stock 06 score was effected in xp with 8.3 drivers so went back to 8.2 but no problem with 8.3 and vista32

3dmark is most likely either running in powerplay clocks or not recognising crossfire for some reason, simple as that, in general its safe to say that no games are affected and most games offer increased performance running with 8.3's, so running 8.2's for a higher 3dmark score for 5 mins and hours upon hours of slower in game performance is really rather ridiculous.

Not sure how they managed to mess up pretty much only 3dmark though but who the heck cares.

Since I got my X2 in Feb I have ran it at each driver update (using 8.1, 8.2, and now 8.3 cats) and got the following scores (at stock):

(8.1)16069
(8.2)16061
(8.3)15925

this is running a Q6850 Extreme @ stock (3.0) 4GB Crucial ballistix 8500, and Vista x64 with some other goodies. 100 points drop isnt going to kill me I dont think... my games are fine, thats all that matters to me.

No thats a poor score, Ive had 11k with just one 2900xt

I got that with 2 2600XT in crossfire...
