If Cardiff win the FA Cup....

I would believe that since Cardiff/Swansea/Wrexham/Newport are all in English Football Leagues then they would take an English clubs place.

I was having a conversation about this at the weekend and I though that since Cardiff and Swansea had rejected the League of Wales in order to stay in the English League they had forfeited any rights to European qualification.

I couldn't find anywhere to confirm it though.

Well, if Cardiff enter the season with that clause agreed, what grounds is there to argue? Its not fair I guess, but its something they've decided obviously :(

The only way 6th place could get into the UEFA cup was if Chelsea won the cup, as they'd be in the CL next year..

Until now! I want Cardiff to win now. :D

I thought the 6th place gets a spot in the Uefa cup anyway. It would have been the 7th club if Chelsea won the fa cup?

1 place to the league, 1 place to the FA Cup, 1 place to the Carling Cup.

If the winner of the FA Cup qualifies for the CL, the place goes to the runner up. If the runner up has also qualified for the CL, the place goes to the league.

If the winner of the Carling Cup qualifies for the CL, the place goes to the league.

In the previous 3 seasons, all three places have ended up going to the league. This season Spurs have won the Carling Cup and one of the FA Cup finalists definitely won't qualify for the CL. Thus only 5th place will be good enough for the UEFA Cup spot this year.

Is it really only three places for England in UEFA cup?

We've had four teams this year. Blackburn already knocked out, and Everton, Bolton and Tottenham still in.

I believe England had four teams last year too.

That's annoying (as a Swansea fan)

Cardiff City have been told they will not be nominated for a Uefa Cup spot if they win this season's F.A Cup. The news confirms, once again, that the six Welsh 'exile' clubs are the only teams in Europe without a route into Europe. The statement from the Football Association has described the club's situation as "unique".

"It's an unique situation for Cardiff as they play in our association yet belong to another one in the FAW. Representation would have to be entered by us. They are not eligible for an English place. Those rules are set in stone at the start of the season and they enter in that knowledge.

I hope that gets resolved... I can still win the Champions League with Swansea in FM2008 though, so at least I'm happy there :p

There's another spot avaiable via the Intertoto Cup which is how Blackburn qualified this year and Newcastle the year before.

Hahaha, if they can't qualify I'd be much happier for Cardiff to win it :D

Still don't want them to. Barnsley Pompey final please.
