Following a move and change of job I am now only 1.5 miles from work, rather than 45 miles from work.

Don't feel I can justify forking out on my 330i any more without all the motorway cruising so decided to go for a beep beep, something like an Aygo or Polo for going to work, and bank the cash for a while.

Insane or a good idea? I am sure there are plenty of opinions on the forum but I think it might be fun for a while, but probably to be followed by an S2000 in 6 months or so :D

If anyone is looking for a 330i... ;)

I'd say it's a bad idea, moving walking distance to work is a reason to have a silly car, not a sensible one :)

Makes sense to me. Those 330s are rubbish.
Why you'd want to own an Aygo for just 6 months I don't know. Bugger the S2000, supercharge the Aygo and then put Nanjing ditchfinders on it, that'll make it more fun.

The lower mileage you do the easier it is to justify a 3 litre car.

Keep it. It'll cost nothing to keep running with such low mileage. I do 10 miles a day in my 530i and its great :D

If you want to sell it, buy something absolutely ridiculous. Who cares how much fuel costs when you do such little mileage?

OK so thats one vote for the Aygo, and the rest for something silly.

Tempted by the RX8 as I always fancied one but was put off by the fuel.
But also tempted to put a big wedge in the bank along with the cash from selling my house, feel rich and make some interest!

Forgot to mention the other factor is the possibility of sharing cars with the GF if she also gets a job close to home / my work, and we would require trips to the north from Cambridge every few weeks.

So this puts the mileage back into it a little and rules out anything around the 15mpg mark.

So to open up another question, one sensible car, or a runabout and a weekend car?

Could get the S2000 now if I shift mine quickly.

S2000 will easily be a daily driver and a weekend car IME.

25-30mpg no problem either. I considered a RX7 when I got mine, fuel economy put me off though

Get a mountain/commuter bike or walk for work. Use the car for social domestic and pleasure.

Insurance drops and you get fit. Win win. :)

A 3.0 engine wouldn't be a fan of 1.5 mile journeys on a daily basis IME.

Get a Skyline, i know i would if i had the NCD. With the low mileage you will be doin it would be great.

I am looking at getting a 200SX when i get myself my 2nd year NCD to give me experience before owning a GTR.

I am certainly considering a mountain bike as I can get 40% off one through work in some tax dodge..

So a Bike + S2000 combo sounds good.

Only problem there is I fork out for the S2000 and the GF gets to drive it every day to work!

I have to say that the silly car makes most sense, though why not buy a cheap silly car. Something like a supercharged MX is probably more fun than an S2000, yet still costs less. If you don't care about wet weather protection, don't muck about, buy a Westfield.

I would have thought the swap would be the other way round based on your new usage TBH. Aygo is something Im considering as a cheap runner for 60 miles a day.

I'll stick up for the Aygo here.

- Cheap as chips, even to buy brand new.
- Good residuals.
- £30 a year road tax.
- 60mpg.
- Group 1 insurance.
- An entertaining chassis to drive.
- Underpowered, but not as slow as you'd think.

Just don't get a funny "tiptronic" style one, and they're ace fun. Faster down a bumpy, twisty back road than a lot of much faster cars - including my old (lowered) 106 GTi, a mates 2 litre redtop MK1 Astra, and another mates S14a 200sx.

£30 a year road tax? Who honestly cares? As if £100 a year tax saving makes up for driving around in an invalid carriage :p

Infac your whole post fails, especially the rubbish about it being quicker down a B road than a 106 GTi.

They are rubbish.

Hahaha :D

If you could drive one with the skills of russ swift then it could be fun.

Stick with a really impractical car, sell the beemer and get a DAX rush as your daily driver.

Hahahahahahahaha!

It's got 67bhp, 0-60 in 14.2 seconds - sounds quick to me
