Hi folks,

Just taken this for a test drive:

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...US&min_pr=3000&max_pr=8000&max_mileage=100000

This is the car I have as part ex:

http://www.whatcar.com/valuation-summary.aspx?MA=25&MV=24931&ED=26296&UP=1725372&ML=94000

They are willing to do a cost to change of £4500, that's £700 for my mazda and knocking the £95 off the focus.

I don't mind paying a bit over the odds, because I like this car, but on the other hand, I don't want to get taken for a mug. But since I am a 2nd hand car noob, I wonder if someone could tell me if this is reasonable, or if I should hold out for something else.

Thanks in advance.

If this is their first offer... say you'll do it for £4200 and flash some cash either that or try and get something free with the focus. Maybe the next service? Or a service before you pick it up...

I was trying to hold out for £4300, which is still perhaps a bit generous, but he wouldn't budge an inch. They had only got it in mind you, maybe if it's still there in a week or two I could go back and re-open negotiations.

Thanks Morba.

EDIT: Didn't see that other post until I posted! If he didn't accept 4300, I think I better leave it for the time being. Cheers for your input.

SHould have read, you dont mind paying over the odds, sometimes this isnt a bad thing if it really gets you the car you want. Get what you can off though.

focus well overpriced mate, i payed a few hundred quid more for a tdci 115 with lower miles and that was in july or august last year i think

If they won't budge on the price of the car then like you say, try and get as much out of the deal as you can. The dealer wouldn't budge on £8k for my new car but in the end I got a load of extras thrown in instead; 6 months tax, 12 month MOT, 2 new tyres and the front bumper and bonnet resprayed. I was happy to pay full whack with all those extras thrown in.
