One of the big "sells" of the UK bid was the idea of a "friend-ship" which would spend the next 4 years going around the world showing johnny foreigner how great we are.

It was that small detail that gave the UK bid that extra edge over the competition.

And now they've scrapped it. Awesome.

Wonder what else will go titsup ...

ps, still looks like Lisa Simpson giving head doesn't it.

Isn't that a good thing - tell a load of big chat to get the Olympics, then drop all the poncey superficial crap and focus on the actual point of the Olympics, the athletic competition :p

I worked for the Commonwealth games in Manchester 2002 now while not on the same scale as the Olympics the process was very simliar.

My point is that from now until the games you are going to hear many many stories about how it is all going wrong etc.

Im sure you can all remember how good the Sydney Olympics were, well a lot of the staff from there came to work at the Commonwealth games in Manchester and warned us that the press will report every little issue that arises in a very negative way. The same stories that are being reported now for London 2012 were reported for Sydney 2000 and Manchester 2002.

From now until the games you are going to get reports of funding shortfalls, poor management, poor planning, lack of resource, poor use of resource etc.

I have posted that in a few threads regarding the Olympics, you will not hear about the successes, just what is going wrong.

Waste of time, I'm glad they've scrapped it.

Typical sales tactics - promise what they want + bells and whistles, just deliver what they want. If the IOC believed we were going to do this friend-ship nonsense then more fool them.

Exactly, sounded like a ridiculous idea anyway.

Since when do you need to promote the Olympics? :p

I've said it the beginning, this government couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery! Just wait until it dawns on people that this folly has somehow gone over budget and now is costing something like 5x the original quote.

I live right by what will eventually be the Olympic park. About two weeks ago I got a letter through. They're still seeking planning permission for the roads leading up to the park.
