Ive got me a 05 e90 with business navigation and idrive which i should have by the weekend. Now ive asked elms bmw for a quote on installing the ipod connection and they have come up with the price of £550! I know it intergrates with the idrive but at the end of the day its a cable that plugs in and some programing + labour. I was expecting at least half that! Are there any alternatives fellas?

I'm sure I saw a sign in Sytners offering it for about £100!

There are better aftermarket options available anyhow, Denison springs to mind.

Also check out the Intravee

get one of the transmitting things that plugs into your ipod headphones socket and just tune your radio to the signal :D You can pick them up dead cheap.

They are absolutely truely rubbish! I bought one, tried it for 5 mins then threw it in the bin. He wants a proper solution.

the car has a aux in socket so no need, i think its a bit dangerous messing with an ipod whilst driving plus i dont want cables hanging around for charging. i want to be able to control it via the idrive, nice large screen and usually the ipod is kept in the glove box

dont even think about it

they're terrible and stuff constantly interferes with it.

Ditto

Had a Belkin one - awful signal from it regardless of channel chosen, often lost signal, the auto-turn off was very sensitive so it kept switching itself off. Just worse than useless

Personally i would OEM it but phone around other dealer and get quotes, its going to be the best solution for the stock radio, Dice kits for Merc seem to cost $449 anyways then + fitting and they don't seem to do one for the E90, the dealer price could be worse!

Avoid the Dension solution. If it's anything like I have fitted in my e39 it just doesn't work half of the time.

£500 odd doesn't seem that bad for a decent oem solution that should work flawlessly - I'd take that over some aftermarket junk.

I feel my pants woud be down and i would be greased up if i payed that £550, just dosnt seem value

[grandad] never understand all this spending on ICE, on a long journey you can't beat radio 4 [/grandad]

And I thought I was old before my time! You're 22, drive a Volvo and listen to Radio 4! :D

I, on the other hand, drive a BMW 5 series and listen to Radio 2 at 19... :(

My boss just bought a jack to jack cable and that was it. Works a treat?

yup, paid something like <£10 for my cable, runs from the back of the cd player and comes out from the arm rest under the hand break so no cables showing, build play list before you set off and jobs a good un(although my car isn't a bmw and has easy access around the dash)
