The Budget - Band G Tax £1000!

This whole going green and how CO2 emissions are affecting the way we live is one big lie, those who have read up on it and saw a documentary a while back will know all about it.

This is the funniest and saddest thing of it all; that it is just one big lie to rake in money for the greedy and people actually believe they are going 'green' and helping the environment.

Maybe one day (probably when it is too late), this will be fully realised by the public and something will be done about it.

People love it though, as the middle and upper class get to be snobby about being "green" and the government get to tax us to death.

One day people will look back and see just what a con this all is. Until then I wil just buy a nice big 5.7l V8 registered before 98 and pay £180, and if anyone moans at me I'll do a nice burnout on their lawn. :p

I can understand how suicide bombers must feel. Seriously, blowing up a load of politicians seems like a brilliant idea, might tell them something they're too blind to see because their heads are so far up their arses.

People have to be dissuaded from buying high-emission cars, and the only way to do that is to tax them because people just aren't listening to reason.

Sitting on the middle of the fence what I can't understand is why charge 1k and then reduce the tax over the coming years, does the car in band G actually get more environ friendly the older it gets? Just seems an ill thought out idea if it's to discourage new purchases.

I'm hoping the manufacturers announce a £1000 price cut on all high emmision model, meaning that end customers aren't effected and the gov don't get to beat people with their idiot views via taxation.

And what is 'reason'?
That a large chunk of our CO2 emissions come from cars, and that you should show restraint when (1) buying and (2) using because the amount we emit is a problem.

So does a band G car doing 10000 miles a year produce more CO2 than a lower band car doing 5 times the mileage?

As SB118 has said, the manufacturers are going to have to do something to combat this or they'll not be able to sell their top level cars. Take Subaru for example, even the standard WRX is going to be hit by the £1000 tax. I know that additional £1000 would put me off buying one, so hopefully the additional cost can be absorbed somewhere else.

So you'd consider an Impreza STi @ its current price of £24995 but if it was £25995 you wouldnt?

How odd.

Not odd at all. So you'd be quite happy to pay the extra £1000 after the budget or from whatever date they decide to implement it just because some grey little civil servant says you have to. Would you rather pay the extra £1000 than having the manufacturer absorb the cost ?

If I was in the market for that sort of car, a sub 5% price increase wouldn't be a dealbreaker. The fact it would be for you makes it abundantly clear you are not in the market for a car at that sort of price point.

You are correct im not in the market at the moment but certainly a car at that price level is by no means outwith my budget. Perhaps some people on the board do actually vaule money and would rather not have to spend an additional £1000 (Maybe its just me being Scottish :D).

Why bother trying haggle the price down on new cars with dealers if we should just be happy paying the RRP.

I never said we should 'just be happy' and indeed its in our interests to pay as little as possible but an increase of £1k on a £25k car will not put people off buying them. I mean what else are you going to buy instead?
