Has anybody actually got used to using the Office 2007 layout? its is doing my head in, I cant for the love of life get used to the new look and layout, it takes me ages to do anything.

Is there any way (without paying) that I can apply some sort of classic layout to this after microsoft have gone and created a mess out of a perfectly usable UI in their previous office packages?

Also is there a way to get it to automatically save in the previous filetypes instead of the new ones. e.g. save to .doc instead of .docx? and save in .xls instead of .xlsx?

When i first started using it. it got me crazy too. But once you get hold of it, it's actually good to use IMO. Maybe try using longer. :)

Yes, its fantastic. I don't think theres any way to get back the classic style menus without using a third party add-in (at cost).

You can set the default save format through options, then save tab. ('Office button' then bottom right of the menu is options).

Nope. I posted about the same thing just last week on this forum. I can't adjust to it yet need it because I use outlook 2007.

Those two things are the only real big changes in office 2007.

Why did you upgrade?

I'd say go back to the old version if you don't like either of them. And stop complaining!

If you want a free alternative try open office. It can save in various MS Office formats. It doesn't look as pretty but I swear by it (carry the portable version on a flash drive).

Took me no time at all to adjust to the new layout, and I find it far nicer and easier to use. No more digging through menu upon menu just to find an option.

I love Office 2007 - such a huge leap forward from 2003, which was very similar to 2000, which was similar to 97 etc etc. I love how styles change just by you hovering over them, how things are so less cluttered (especially when you auto-hide the ribbon) and generally its usability. I spent a week asking 'where have they put x' and searching the help file permanently, but once you've worked it all out it saves so much time.

Again, I much prefer 2007. The kids pick it up far quicker too, so it's better to teach with. Apart from Publisher 2007, the lazy gits. That and they didn't bother updating things like WordArt - except for PowerPoint.

PowerPoint, by the way, is so much better in 2007.

I was looking for a way to switch back at first, now I by far prefer it, it's a much quicker way to look for commands than the old UI and it even highlights commands which you are most likely to use.

I agree its a disgrace they forced this rubbish on us after 10+ years of being totally familiar with the old interface without even an option to switch it back on. Total arrogance. I went back to 2003, runs quicker for me to.

I use the "compatibility pack for the 2007 office system" with office xp. Cos I couldnt get use to office 2007 and had to go back to good old office xp.

how exactly did they force it on you? you don't HAVE to upgrade.

you might as well just force yourself to use it, help tells you where everything is..

it's quicker to use once you've got used to it

click the ribbon, then options, then save, to choose 97-2003 format

the newer formats are much better tho, and there are packs for old office users to install so they can open your files

the new files are much smaller

The change in the keyboard shortcuts is annoying, especially since I have to use 2003 at work.

I've just updated to Office 2007 and I really like the new interface. I'm currently writing my uni dissertation and it makes it so much easier to insert endnotes and things. I really like the new interface and I thought I'd HATE it at first. I've only had it an afternoon and I wouldn't go back to the old version if you paid me tbh.

Just give it time and I'm sure you'll get used to it!
