Been out of the loop for ages. So bear with me.

Whats considered the air cooling king at the moment, still the Tuniq Tower?

If so has the tuniq changed at all in the last 6-12months? Had one ages ago and it was rubbish to be honest. Is it still worth swapping out the stock fan for something a bit better?

cheers

alec

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme has been found to be a little better than the Tuniq in a few places. Sounds like the difference between them almost makes no odds though.

thermalright ultra extreme with a high cmf fan such as a 120mm delta will be near the top,
the tuniq is also highly rated

Yeah I was happy with mine when I had one. Just want something a bit better as its going on a quad :) Don't mind spending an extra £15 over the ACF 7 to get a few c's off :)

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 seems to be the new king of air coolers. Just do a search for a recent review of it. Beats the Thermalright Ultra 120 comes complete with a fan, and is a lot cheaper.

with a quick google 2 out of 3 tests i saw had the ultra 120 as the better sink giving higher stable overclocks(in the review on xbitlabs that checked that).

The Xigmatek is also huge and heavy and uses the standard pushpins for 775 installation. I would spend an extra £40 for a heatsink that big to use a proper clamp method and backplate as the Thermalright does. those pushpins aren't great to use on a stock intel heatsink, let alone something 3-4 times the weight. Also not sure very hard to tell but looks like the fan may/may not obscure 2 of the pushpins on one side which would make it very very difficult to remove in a lot of cases.

u getting that from coretemp or speedfan, because i suspect you must add 15 degrees, unless you room is really cold?

Yep I'm using Coretemp Beta. I'm sure I read they had solved the issue of +15 degrees for the Quads? Hence why I chose it to monitor my temps

What should I use instead?

Ive just ordered a Xigmatek HDT-S1283. Was looking at the Ultra 120 but didnt want to take the mobo out (im a lazy git :)). My Q6600 is mid 40's on idle and I need a good fan/cooler.

Should have it installed over the weekend.

Let us know the results!

I love my Tuniq Tower and all.. but it seems to be what's making the most noise in my case at the moment. Anybody know of a decent, quieter fan to replace the stock one?

Sorry for the hijack! its kinda related ;D

For optimum CFM/noise balance, the Noctua "p" 120mm fans are highly rated, but they are relatively pricey! Cheaper altenatives would be the Sharkoon "golf;" Scythe S-Flex; Akasa Amber; Yate Loons (some swear they are quieter than the suggested 28ish db).
