Ok so i live in Canada now. Downtown Vancouver is about 2 hours from the American border and so can nip over at any time.

iPhone arent out here but the Canadian love them...they sell on popular sites for CAN$600 all the time (which is about US$590)

Now...i have a chap offering to swap my iPhone 8gb with a couple of scratches for a 23" Cinema Display without the power adapter and ill give him $100. I can pick up a power adapttor for around $40.

I can nip over the border and get a 16gb iPhone for $499. So for the best part of $650 ill have a 23" ACD and have upgraded my 8gb to a 16gb iPhone.

What do you think?

Sounds okay... but an electrical appliance missing the power cords? That screams its been stolen to me. Thats how it works around the estates I live near anyway!

Could be totally wrong though just be aware if you dont know this guy.

Go for it providing you can trust the guy :)

Thats the thing...its a friend of a friend kind things. I mentioned i wanted a monitor for my 17" MBP and he said his mate had one her was selling

Indeed!

Ill be sure to ask if its stolen and if he says "No...this is my property" then im in the clear. Plus im in Vancouver...its a safe city but the whole place is filled with dodgy activity.

The power adapter for those costs an absolute ton by the way, it's not just a cable.

Edit: OK I suppose its worth it if you can get it for $40.

Buy an iPhone, sell privately in Canada = win.

Use the profit to buy the ACD new, that guy sounds shady.

FYI: Apple have updated the ACDs with brighter lamps, they haven't publicised it, so the chances are you're getting the dimmer version - I'd want a test if I bought from him.
