What relevance does listing car modifications have to third party only insurance policies?

If I bash someone else, the mods won't increase the claim.
If someone else bashes me, their insurance will cover it, mods included. (?)

Now I know the insurance answer to this is mods make you "higher risk".

So my theoretical question is, if someone were to not declare a mods to their insurers, and they got bashed by a third party, then surely they would claim for the cost of the mods off the third party's insurance.

Confused

Well, your insurance would go up even as third party as you are potentially higher risk of having an accident.
More likely to have an accident = more money.

Do you know what third party insurance covers?

Go and have a google, check your own policy then come back and explain it to us.

What if the person bashing you has no insurance?

Then you have a big problem as you'll have to try and claim from the MIB. Third party insurance has no relevance here.

What if your car is vandalised?

If you have third party insurance then you have to pay for the damage yourself. How is this relevant?

What if you hit a pedestrian or cyclist?

Third party insurance covers property and personal injury, so the pedestrian or cyclist can claim from your insurance. Again I fail to see the relevance?

Its a game of risk. Insurers often see people who modify cars (i.e. saxo driving knobs with lexus lights and salute cannons poking out the rear valance) as being higher risk because they are more likely to be in an accident. In effect - the huge sewer pipe sticking out the back of your car and the "NOVA" sunstrip don't make you any more likely to be in an accident, but the fact you put them there puts you into a certain group of people who are more likely to have an accident. etc etc.
