I'm assuming you mean the 8600GT as afaik the 8600GS is only for laptops...

The 8800GT is going to be between 3 and 4 times faster than an 8600 card in most situations.

just looked in device manager and is says its a geforce 8600 gs ???
i got a dell laptop with a 8600m gt but pc definately gs strang

Im asure the 8600gs did come out as an OEM system builders card so you are correct there. If your upgrading from the 8600gs to the 8800gt you are likely to see a 4xincrease in performance :) which is definately a very good idea! Also the 9600GT @ £103 makes even more sence to me mate

Ah seems its an OEM only card specific to packard bell tho dell seems to have their hands on em too...

without a spec sheet to hand I can't say for sure - but its going to be slower than the 8600GT - usually by ~30% so 8800GT is going to be a massive boost in performance...

EDIT: Ugh looks like its basically an 8400 with slower memory (512Mb 128bit 400MHz DDR2) and faster core...
