Pic: Your desk...RIGHT NOW

Hey, In Porto airport :)

This should shock me into cleaning my desk by displaying it to my fellow forumites. Still haven't sorted it out properly since moving in this house in October!

Those white papers aren't usually there but I've got Year 11 reports in for tomorrow.

Apologies for shocking phone camera quality. I've got 2 good cameras and they're both downstairs :D

Er I am. :p

Might become one soon depending on how I go finding jobs this summer. :)

Well I didn't intend on being one, so I was surprised too! :p Why are you surprised though, just out of interest?

I ended up in teaching after taking a technician post in the school I'm at whilst I waited for graduate recruitment schemes start. I became a popular chap, the usual mean deputy took a real shining to me, and I started teaching old folks (silver surfers!), parents and some kids after school. It evolved into a full-blown ITT role and I'm now in my NQT year.

We were OFSTEDed in October - I was the first to be inspected. We got an Outstanding, which was nice :D

Didn't think anyone would admit to being a teacher! :p

Nice! :D I spent two years working in the IT/DT department at an upper school before I headed off for Uni. :) Quite enjoyed it. :p

Worked with an absolute babe! :D She was offered and took the job of Head of IT within months of qualifying as a teacher and then promptly left to work for an LEA in the region.

Means I don't get to see her pert bottom anymore. :(:o

If I was a drama or history teacher (which, ironically, my degree is in...) I wouldn't! :D

Lucky madam. I don't do too bad, currently working towards becoming head of KS3 in ICT, which would be nice. My boss is retiring in about 6 years or so and he's lined me up for the job. I would fancy working as a consultant for the LEA though, or maybe at the City Learning Centres.

Best of luck if you do decide to go for it; drop me an email if you need any advice.

ANYWAY: Back on topic! :p

I was luckier! ;)

Damn, you are patient man. Does career progression within the teaching profession really take that long?

No, not necessarily. Obviously head of department can be a challenging role and you really do have to have a sound knowledge of running a department, looking after several members of staff, possibly (in the case of ICT) school wide ICT use and ICT strategy, responsibility for department results... and still have to teach. It's not easy to go from class teach to a HoD.

As MarcLister said though, many make the jump within a couple of years - or less. It depends on the school, right place right time etc.

To be honest, I may move schools if the right opportunity arises. However, I'm at a very good school, and there are several ways to earn (almost) as much as a HoD. I'm currently on 3k a year more than the standard scale in my first year and will be on more than 30-35k comfortably by the time he does retire.

How's your slimfit? I've got the 419 (all black) and I find it lovely. Wii looks nice on component, brothers PS3 was nice and sharp and my HDMI DVD player is nice through it too.

yeah im really happy with it. Wii looks very good on it! Indeed, the HDMI quality is superb. Could never afford a 32" TFT so a slimfit did the job!

Finally bought my new desk and fitted it tonight. I had to utilise the old tv stand underneath to put the shuttle pc and my midi keyboard. I can drag it out from under there when I need to use it. Looks good now. Much tidier than my old pc desk cluttering up the place.
