What would be the best upgrade route on a budget?

I'd be selling my X1800 to go towards the funds, but i dont really want to be spending anymore than £100 of my own money.

I could probably sell my X1800 for about £40/£50, so £150 budget max!

I'm thinking of a 3850pro or an 8800GT? Both 256mb varients. I game at 1440x900.

Anyone convince me? I feel my x1800 doesn't cut the mustard anymore :(

My other specs are a Q6600 @ 3.5Ghz, and 4GB Gskill, so my x1800 is the only thing lacking.

Thanks :)

I agree with what Loadsa said, but the card he linked is an overclocked model, hence it costs slightly more and you can easily clock a reference card to those speeds anyway.

Can't really go wrong with ocuk's own for £130.

Or you could grab an EVGA for £140, only difference worth noting is the warranty and bundle.

I upgraded from a 1900XTX to a 8800GT, roughly 3000 more in 3Dmark 06, I get no slow downs in games that did before. Crysis is now playable on Ice Level on 1680x1050. End boss doesn't halt to a crawl either.

hi m8, i just upgraded my card on monday, from a x1800xt and i went for the nvidia 8800gtx 762 meg version it really does rock, but i havent tested it fully yet. If you got money its worth it, otherwise if you tight on budget i would have gone for the 8800gt version around £140.

Looks like the OcUK 8800GT 512 is the one to go for. How does the 3850Pro fair up to it? It's just it's slightly cheaper :D But i guess you get what you pay for.

You would be better of with the HIS or Sapphire 3870 512MB cards, as they are faster cards & within your budget anyway.

Hello folks :)

My friend has offered me his EVGA 8800GTS 320mb for £80. It's about 3 months old.

I think this is a good deal, but not sure if i'd see much more improvement getting a GT for another £50-£60?

£80 GTS or £140 GT?

I think i would go for the EVGA 8800GTS 320mb. Its still a really good card and not that far behind the 8800GT and youd save a few quid.

Just gone from X1900XTX to 8800GTX OC, what a difference. The least you should buy is 8800GT or 8800GTS G92, anything less than that is just not worth it really.

I went from the 256 X1800 XT myself and I have to say that was a great card, but in some of the new er games I've bought recently it's started to struggle.

grabbed myself an 8800 GT , I have to say from a competitor as at the time they had the better deal on the card than OcUk did (sorry guys gotta shop around) and I am very very pleased with result. It cuts through everything I play like a hot knife through butter, with everything pretty much maxed out. I really am pleased with the card, it's well worth the upgrade :D

The X1800 XT i had lasted me almost 18 months, hoping that the 8800 GT will do the same :)
