Did I almost get burgled?

Last week the flat downstairs from us was burgled, we know the tenants well and they had just moved out so only had a few possessions left. Our house is currently covered in scaffolding which makes us a sitting duck, the bugrlars came over the scaffolding, round the back and smashed back door window in and went out through the front.

Today a van showed up in the drive with a couple of very ***** looking bloked with a ladder. They rang on the buzzer, now normally there would be no one in but due to the above moving out one of the downstairs tenants was in. Apparently these two ****** were quite shocked when someone answered and asked if it was ok if they parked in our drive a second while they dropped a ladder off next door. Now this makes no sense, next door has a bigger drive that is more convenient to pull into. Tenant said fine and they dumped the ladder against the house next door. She looked outside half an hour later and the ladder was gone, am thinking they came back and got their decoy. Oh, this wasn't before having a rummage through our skip and our wheely bins apparently. What do you think?
 
Keep an eye out, it sounds like they were testing the water.

A common trick would be to phone the house and get an idea about times when you're vacant, so I'm guessing they don't know the house number / outright bold.

Sounds very much like they're planning to hit you though..
 
If you wait upstairs you'll be fine.

If you attack them on the ground floor then it's regarded as worse, I can't recall the link, but it's something to do with defending yourself and their intent.
 
On a serious note, time to setup a simple CCTV / Webcam home vid at the potential entry point, wait for them to come in, call the cops and have them knicked. Only attack them if they come after you.

Hear noise? Turn on your handy camcorder, go find them. If they come after you, you whack them and claim self defense as they came for you.
 
Ok, i've got a motion sensitive webcam hooked up on my laptop that ftp's and emails and pics. I'm thinking of buying a wireless webcam (see thread in hardware) to put at the bottom of the stairs or somewhere else more obvious, maybe above the TV in the living room. Seems pretty conclusive to me, police weren't really interested, after for descriptions of the two blokes and said they would look through their database for anyone similar...not quite sure what they expect to accomplish there.
 
Sounds like what happened around here a couple of months back. There was a spate of burglaries which coincided with the new ***** window cleaner that had just started doings his rounds.

i'd watch out for any suspicious activity.
 
trouble is, ****** would kick the crap out of you, Im not exaggerating when i say that gyppos are the toughest mofos you will ever encounter.

also if theyre ****** i doubt the police will even do much

company ive worked for used to have to pay the ****** not to steal there equipment on certain jobs because the police wouldnt do anything and the local security firms wouldnt have anything to do with it either :/
