Hello, i have managed to muster a grand to put towards all the parts that will be going in my Lian Li v2000 :D

Will be for gaming and movie watching and will be o/c as best i can ;). What i have so far is

  • E8400 or Q6600 - could possibly stretch to the new Yorkfield processors but not 100% on wither or not it would be worth it with o/c in mind
  • Gigabyte GA-X38 - for the mobo, cant see anything wrong with that, heard good things about it with o/c in mind.
  • G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ 8000C5 - nice 4g of cheap ram with o/c potential i think
  • Ati 3870x2 or 2x3870XT both seem v.nice and should give nice results on a 22/24'' monitor
  • For the H/D i was thinking about a 70g raptor with a 250g caviar, dont really need much space but would like to see what a high powered drive like the raptor could do to loading times for apps/games
  • For CPU cooling i liked the look of the Zalman CNPS9500A but still not 100% it would be ok for the layout of the Lian LI V2K
  • For the monitor i really really like the look of the Samsung 22'' Pebble, a friend has one at it really looks amazing when watching movies and games, not sure that I'd appreciate a 24'' monitor coming for a crappy 17'' , 22 would be more than enough
  • Not sure about the power supply would probably want to add a extra card to the setup if i went for the X2 so was looking at about 650W-750W area
  • And of course...Windows Vista Home Premium ...*grumble*..

I have not got the exact prices for all those parts , but hope that 1/1.1 k would be enough to cover the cost. Any advice or suggestions or improvements welcome :D

Edit- Added power supply ideas

for the graphics card, i would say get the 3870X2, it will allow you to add a 3870 or another 3870X2 in cross fire if you want.

for the RAM, if you get the q6600, then ddr2 pc2-6400 stuff is good for 3.6GHz ,using the 9x multiplier, if you get the e8400 then get pc2-8000 stuff.

the raptor is arguably not needed, some say modern hdds are on par with raptors while others say they are not.

also what PSU have you got?

provided you dont use 2x 3870X2 in crossfire, then something like the corsair HX620 will be a good choice, if you do plan to use CF ,then i will suggest looking at PSU with a power rating of at least 700W
