Friend just committed suicide

Suicide is something I hope I never encounter amongst my close friends or family, it must be so hard to understand. I'm so sorry for the daughter and your friend, and of course, yourself.

i'm very sorry to hear this :(

probably wrong time to ask but i always wondered why people do this, but i'm pretty sure it's fixable whatever the problem(s) they got.

No offense but this attitude is quite naive. Not everything in life is 'fixable'. If you want to discuss this then I feel a new thread would be appropriate.

My condolences, dm. RIP.

I never get why people say that. I doubt you'd say the same were it someone with a horribly painful disease who'd killed themselves to end their suffering. Unless you've experienced severe depression I don't think you can really comment.

It's not difficult to see why. I would say this person who was a mother has done one of the most selfish acts in her daughter's eyes. You can't compare all suicides to an event where somebody is dying painfully or whatever. Far from it. You're just throwing in a red herring with the overused euthanasia/self-kill from disease argument.

What's that then?

That's me saying someone with a horribly painful disease killing themselves to end their suffering, as I said, and which you have misread as "someone with a painful terminal illness killing themselves to end their suffering". Anyway, enough derailing I think.

Sorry to hear about your friend dmpoole, a good friend of mine killed himself last year. Sorry for your loss.

very sad news indeed :(.

It's certainly not always 'fixable', usually it's a case of teaching people how to cope with feeling the way that they do and letting them know that it doesn't need to control their lives, If you want to gain an insight or help people by offering advice then go to http://www.suicideforum.com/ it's a pro-life forum setup to help people that are suffering from suicidal tendencies, depression etc.

If anyone is finding it hard to cope then please visit the forum, your not alone, there are people out there that can help.

Since this is linked into depression etc, I thought I'd add another angle to the discussion.

31 million prescriptions in 2006. I think we need to start looking past the people themselves and look at the treatment methods. Its easy to feel down if you've had a tough week, but that doesn't mean you need a happy pill (which these drugs aren't anyway). It is a completely normal reaction...

Depression is a part and parcel of life for any person, people from all over the world suffer from it, its wheather or not, you can say A) I will keep on living and try to sort it out or B) My life is over and I will not live another day.
