Think I'm in love, Boxster RS60 Spyder

Funnily enough I've never been much of a Porsche fan however should I inexplicably find myself with more money than I know what to do with I could quite see myself in a Cayman as a daily runaround, I'd quite enjoy people telling me I had a poor man's 911.

The Cayman is nice, but now the Boxster S has the same 3.4ltr engine as of 2007 onwards it really doesn't do it for me. I really don't like the size of the boot lid, have you seen them open? Looks very unbalanced to me. Yes a minor point but it'd just bother me.

I'd probbably need to find an additional 8K to fund a Cayman - that's just too much....even if I did want one.

In profile though, a lovely car. And thought by many to be the best handling car Porsche produce.

EDIT: And yes, straight line speed - I take your point, it's not going to break any records. My mate has a new S2K so i'd need an S to match that but well, for me, its about the complete package. Vs. an Escort...p-lease.

This Boxster is lovely, the others seem like theres something missing to the looks, but this edition looks spot on, but at that price would rather get the Cayman, having a drop top doesnt appeal to me.

If by rear 3/4 angle you mean this, I have no idea how you can think it looks bad, I think it looks superb, I would love one in white.

No, it really doesn't. The lines don't flow properly and the angles are all wrong. Considering it's a boxster forced to become a coupe it's not bad, just not quite good enough.

The equivalent boxster has far better aesthetics and once the 'S' get the cayman's engine and chassis settings, will go just as well (and still be cheaper)

Although if I had the cash to buy either, I'd get 2 other cars, an s2k for a daily, and a 968cs in white for trackwork :)

I am not a huge fan of boxsters. They are achingly good cars, but they are just SO girly. I wouldnt call them a poor mans 911 at all, totally innacurate, i'd happily drive an older 911 for the same money, i'd say they were a gay mans 911.

The boxster is nice (although to me this special edition doesn't look any different to a normal one?!)

However I am not a fan of convertibles so I would have a cayman instead (or maybe an older 911... or a RS4.... or a (I could be here for a while :D)

Why are all older cars sheds in your eyes?

Why are you so utterly apalling at making assumptions? I've never thought, and never will think, that all old cars are sheds. There are some stunning old cars out there.

A 1989 Ford Escort however, is on the balance of probabilities, more likely to be a shed than it's not.

Your ignorance must be bliss.

Wow, I just keep getting slapped in the face by your irony today, don't I!

That Boxster is nice, but I think on balance I'd rather have the old Spyder next to it :)

I think it's a shame Porsche isn't prestigious anymore. I remember getting excited as a kid when I saw one. Still, you can't take away the fact the Boxster is a gorgeous car. I appreciate the small touches that differentiate the models but I feel sorry for people who buy a 911 but average Joe will just think its the "same as the Boxster that auntie Jo's bought" and don't appreciate what it's really about.

Still, it's not about what other people think is it?

i suspect when you were a kid, the 924 was at large. that's far more pov-porsche than any boxster ever will be.

Despite the fact that I'd much rather have an old Porsche than a new one (hell, I must be one of the few people on here who'd rather have a veeeeeeeeery early 911 than a current 997 Carrera) I certainly wouldn't be desperately unhappy with virtually any car in the current Porsche range.

Except the Cayenne, which is just plain awful.

:)

I drove a brand new boxster S three years ago, to this day it's the best car I've ever had the pleasure to drive.

Would I own one? Probably not, but it doesn't detract it from being a great car.
