Hi guys

ordered my new setup last night :D (e2160, 8800gts, 4GB geil ULL, P35 DS3R, HX620), now all that is left is the monitor

Have been gaming on a 17" (1280x1024) the last five yrs and am worried that moving to a widescreen res will make characters short and fat in BF2 COD4 etc?

Am i being stupid or is this a legitimate concern about moving to widescreen?

If switching I would get something with 1680x1050 res but what is the benefit of 22" over 20"? doesnt 20" look better cos its same amount of pixels in a tighter space

TIA

No it keeps the correct geometry. You're just thinking about TV's, when using the incorrect aspect ratio.

As for 20/22", I'd get the slightly smaller one due to pixel density..or get a 24" I've had a 20" 22" and 24" on my desk.

I had the same concern, but pretty much all major older games and all newer games come with the option for 1680x1050 so your men don't look short and fat. I think I read somewhere that 20" is better for watching films on becuase it fits better with the native resolution or something.

Don't get me wrong 22" is still good though, I'm on a 22" sammy and loving it

BF2 will stretch a little but there are ways around that, CoD 4 includes native widescreen support so will look the same and you'll have more viewing area to boot.

OK great thx for the quick reply, not sure about 20 or 22 tho as the prices r so similar, presume the 22 is the exact same pictutre but slightly stretched to fit the extra 2 inches?

there's a program available called "widescreen fixer" that works for BF2 and some other games that don't support widescreen aspect ratios.

Or you can just create a slightly modifed shortcut to the game itself

For example, this is what mine is like :)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

Now that prices have come down to sensible levels I'd recommend going for a 24"er, assuming you have a high-end graphics card.

Given the choice between a 20" and 22" I'd go for the latter - sure, the pixels aren't so dense but you get a bigger display and personally I think the size suits 1680x1050 perfectly for desktop work.

I agree. I have a 22" and I wouldn't want the pixels to be any smaller.
