halo storyline

can anyone help? i have played halo 1 but not 2 and am playing through 3 now but i feel i have missed a bit of the story.. what happened with cortana?

can anyone breifly explain what happens in 2 and exactly how it ends?

Id just read the wikipedia entry if I were you, although Im pretty sure you can read the story on halo.bungie.org, that might be better.

Cortana had to stay behind to destroy the halo installation, after the end credits you see her and Gravemind talking. She says " what do you want to know?" roll credits.
