Hello all,

My friends and I want to go to Amsterdam in April/May.

Looking for info from people that have been before really :) - Now I'm rather thick so I have a couple of basic questions.

1. When booking a flight is there only one airport you can go to? If not which one should we fly to?

2. Can anyone recommend a hotel to stay in? Don't need anything fancy just need a place like a travel lodge which will be fine for 3 nights, as long as there aren't holes in the ceiling we will be fine :p

Thanks all :)
J

"My friends and I", you uncouth swine :p

Have fun! I've wanted to go to the 'dam for ages.

have a look for cheap hotels in dam central, we made the mistake of getting one just outside and ruined the holiday. O and try moonshine :D

I went to Amsterdam with a couple of friends in Feb - its an awsome city :)

We stayed in the Winston which is just off Damrak and about 300 yds from Dam Square, it is no frills but the bar and nightclub downstairs are great - the rooms are clean and beds are comfy, what more can you ask for? :D

Edit: If you want any recomendations for places to go just drop me an email (in trust) ;)

Cheers dude! :) I've added you to MSN if that's ok? :)

Went back on feb 14th for 3 days, took the ferry from hull to rotterdam, and then stayed in a hostel for both nights, had no trouble with them and even had free breakfast in the morning.

when you go don't forget to check out the sex museum, but dont head down to the heineken museum its closed till june or july and cant remember which.

Yeah, Schiphol is the Amsterdam airport - and as reported, the trains to the city are frequent and fast.

Are you going for the drinking/clubbing or for more dubious things (that, perhaps, might require the use of a café)? If you're looking for cafés, I recommend both Lost In Amsterdam (http://www.lostinamsterdam.com/ - quite possibly the comfiest place I've ever been :D) which is good for things like Hashish and nice cold pints, and Abraxas which is more along the lines of coffee, "space" cake and milkshakes etc.

Thanks dude, is the train station part of the airport? so we get off, and buy our tickets for the train? How much will the train cost? roughly...managed to find accomodation about 100 yards from the town square, for the price of that combined with flight prices it's going to cost £300 all in! :) - Then it's just spending money...

Yeah, the train station is under the airport (they share the same building) so it's really easy to get to. I can't remember the price, but the train journey is only about 20mins and is pretty cheap as a result.
