Working for the police?

I guess it would depend on what you got the ciminal record doing, stealling mars bar when your 15 and getting a criminal record for 5yrs wouldnt affect your chances i guess. You would be better off going to your local police station or who ever you apply to to join the police and asking them.

If it's Vanilla Ice you're out of luck i'm afraid.

As teulk says it depends on what exactly the offence was, how long ago it was and how honest you are when applying (from what i've heard some offences they don't mind if you tell them from the outset, but may cause problems if not declared, I guess due to them wanting applicants honest now).

If it helps, about 5yrs ago one of my friends got arrested for assaulting a police officer. 2yrs ago he became a copper... so go figure!

PS What did you do? Come on, tell all! :D

I have a GBH record for hitting my sisters old boydfriend, cos I had found out that he had hit her.

Now I dont believe that 1 act of voilence should be resolved by another, however I did see red when I found out.

No man, should ever hit a woman!

Anyway this was 9 yrs ago, I was just 18

Black or muslim or both? :o

Aslong as you aren't white it will be no ploblem.;)

The MET police turned away a guy who served in Afghanistan (Was in the Ross Kemp thing), Because they are trying to meet ethnic targets. Was in the local paper, so it must be true. ;)

I thought that records only lasted 5yrs so you should be ok. With it being so long ago im not even sure if you would need admit to having a criminal record

^ If thats true, it's a disgrace.
They should stick with you for life.

I don't think what "Ace Modder" done was wrong, just that criminal records should stick.

The rehabilition of offenders act permits you not to tell employers about a criminal record in some situations.

However it does not apply to jobs with the police force. You need to tell them everything.

There's probably a phone number for recruitment for your local force on their web site.

I think it should be the police telling you what convinctions you have, not the other way round. Surely they should know?!

It's like the bank asking you how much money you have in your account with them.

The recruiters still do a CRB check on you, so they do find out.

It's got nothing to do with them telling him what convictions he has though; he wants to know if he'd be eligible to apply with the criminal record he has.

What do you mean by last 5 years. I've seen a search done on someone's criminal record, and trust me, it goes back all the way. Even stuff done before you are 18, they don't get deleted.

Only if it actually went on your record. Warnings and cautions should definitely be deleted!

OT, but you are therefore suggesting not only that people cannot reform, but that they shouldn't be allowed to?

Sorry, if you have a ABH/GBH/murder/rape/terrorism etc conviction against you, you are not eligible to apply.

Jebus though, you must have seriously beat the guy if you got a GBH :\
