True next-gen Nvidia GT200 ready to launch anyday...

Interesting find, 240 to 480 shaders, with GDDR4/5 memory even without higher clocks for core/shaders (if heat and power issues equate to not being able to increase them from current) will mean a massive hike in shader performance
Looks like it's gonna be an interesting autumn-winter 2008 ;)

I'm ordering the parts for a completely new rig next week. With this news, I think I'll be better off ordering the cheapest 8800GT I can get, and upgrade the card later in the year.

I'm sat here with money waiting to go on a Dell 3008 (for Work purposes :P) and a new GFX card to update the 1800XT and look what happens, 3008s are delayed / rarer than hens teeth and now it seems pointless to update the gfx front as well for what would only be a few months use, so it looks like i'm riding out on the 1800 for a bit longer :(

looks like my 8800GTS 512MB will be my final upgrade for a long time now. I have no intention of playing crysis, so I have no doubts at all that my card will be able to easily handle any game thrown at it for the next 2 years or so.

Well all of these early indications are telling me not to upgrade. TBH this is ok as it give me time to save up for when the real next gen cards come out :)

Good god, someone with sense... wait a minute while I sit down and catch my breath... :D

i'm hangin on to my 3850pro for awhile.....upgrading to an X48-T2R as soon as there is some stock. Need me a new platform for these future cards!

Its funny how many people buy the latest thing without realising that its a waste of money :)

I agree, with the 8800GT at such a low price there really is no point buying anything faster as the increase just isnt worth it nor will it really improve the overall gameplay experience, for that we need the next generation of DX10 cards.

We are certain now that the new Nvidia card not the SLI thingie that it's getting released these days is going to be a new architecture. Will the 4*** series from ATI going to be new architecture aswell or just a heavily modifired 3870?

I wish these posts didn't always turn into fan wars, and be more about hardware.

As for upgrading, there is a simple rule of thumb, buy bang for buck, Don't buy for bragging rights, as Half the time, the games aren't out to utilise the hardware, and the drivers take months to get them running right. and by then the price has dropped.
