How do you choose and obtain your music?

I ended up having to get them off obscure mp3 sites - bloody difficult to track down albums that went out of print before this sort of thing really took off! I'm not one for spending £20 on a 6-track CD (amazon!) that I might not like. I don't think my version of CM has that prelude track - pretty cool idea though. I have a track called "Intro".

I'll listen to them in that order tomorrow at "work"

I usually hear something being played by friends, shops, last.fm etc. research it and get hold of the album if I like it. I've come across multitudes of stuff from people recommending it through here as well.

I use Last.fm mainly and this website for Black Metal www.blackmetal.co.uk lots of good reviews and recommendations on there I find.

Also Wikipedia now and then, just browsing through bands and side projects.

I don't buy my music either admittedly, if I did I'd have to cut back on other things and buying a CD just to rip it to my PC and stick on the iPod seems pointless, I will never use that CD again.

Edit: The site I linked is down atm.

(except Cursive because they suck)
Heathen!

In terms of my music listening and obtainage, I go through phases, sometimes I'll listen to radio 1 or galaxy fm and get the latest hits or pick a song or two from Zane Lowe's show, but usually my music comes from friends, last.fm or mainly blogs - I have a listen to many songs and usually discard all but one or two out of a good few dozen, but those gems see through my collection and they're all good.

Metal Hammer and Myspace for me, discovered about 5 great metal bands that I really love thanks to them, I normally look at the bands friends aswell and then just listen out for something in their songs to keep me listening, because there is just so many bands now throwing the same stuff out.

Although I have to thank that Freeserve advert a few yrs back for introducing me to Lamb Of God :D

I remember thinking, that is delish! who the **** is that, and someone told me on here :D

I tend to use the Amazon addon of what people bought this also bought this. Sure it costs a bit but i've rarely had any duds

I'm a good boy and buy my CDs. :D

How do I get into new bands/artists? Depends, might hear them on the radio or TV. Sometimes I just see a CD on an online shop and look at it and try and find videos of the artist/band on YouTube. If I like I get the CD. :)

Lots of sources :D

I use my iPod nano for travel and for drumming but my main stereo exposes the compression (even thought the Firewire Audiophile) so I still buy CDs for their clarity.

I found Nightwish from Youtube, went out and bought their CDs. They really remind me a little of Iron Maiden (infact one of their songs ends with an ending blatently stolen/influenced from The Trooper).
I just love the tunes that blaze along with Tarja's vocals soaring over them such as Stargazers, etc. Their drummer's rather good too with very good scores, later that's not the case with the new vocalist :( Can't beat End of All Hope though.. it has become one of my favourites of all time.
I just put in female metal into Youtube and ended up with a gem!

I found Guano Apes ages after their time, initially from the video of the japanese troop doing lots of crazy stuff to the sound of Open Your Eyes. Which I kept playing again and again because at the point in time it just hit the spot tune wise. My female flatmate (new at that time) was playing Helloween (she's very reserved proper lady but loves good -cheesy- rock!) identified it as a tune she had ... I bought the CDs after that too..

I found Aghora from a thread on OcUK, I found them on iTunes and liked the sound so they're on my iPod.. I've also suggested them to the guys on the Vdrums forum because if the interesting drum scores. The drummer does make mistakes but I assume they're short of recording time but the interesting nature makes up for it.

Buddy Rich .. from a movie score. I remember hearing this and attempting to find it before but without success. From the credits I worked through them to find it.. then I found it was also one of the best drummers so that's opened my eyes.

Red Snapper - quite often I'll just buy a 5 CDs or nowdays iTunes or perhaps look on youtube.. I've seen RS live and I went shopping one day and I popped into an independent record store and their album was there. Bought it on the spot.

Mostly through my friends to be honest, I love music and talk about it a lot with my friends/girlfriend and if someone suggests something, they might send me a song or i'll check out a bands myspace or through last.fm

I've only started buying CDs really in the past 6 months, I was always into downloading, but now, I adore the physical product and seeing it sitting on my shelf is really nice...

Last.fm and friends reccomend me music, although I'm going to start reading here a bit more, as I want to diversify my tastes a bit.
