I was told by members on other forums that i use any cloth on a lens to clean it aslong as its not rough.. Now i used lens cloth on the polarizer because it had a finger print on it ( one of the kids said whats this ) .

Now i can see a ring smudge right , swirl marks around the filter against this blue light i use. I can also see them holding at an angle against the outside light

I have 4 clean len's cloths and its just making it worse , what can i use to get these damn swirl marks off :(

Breathe on it (like you would to fog up a window), then use a cloth. You can't get rid of the oily finger marks without moisture.

I've heard advice not to breathe on lenses, but it's never done mine any harm.

You say you're using a blue light? Polarizer may be acting weird in this light and showing what appears as swirl marks which may be why you can't seem to budge them.

I got finger marks on my polarizer and they were a nightmare to remove. I just spent a lot of time lightly cleaning the glass with some lens cleaner and a lens pen. Eventually it cleaned up but it was a right pain. Wonder why they're so much harder to clean than lenses??

How much have you tried wiping it? I found with the cloth I use it seems to be making it worse but as you keep going it does get better and better, but obviously your mileage may vary....

I use a lens pen to clean polarisers. In fact I cleaned mine yesterday, after I found it again. It had a nice finger print and some muck on it from dropping it in a field. Everything has come off fine. Lens pens are only £10 and well worth the money :)

Just bought this due this week

6-in-1 Cleaning Kit with Lens Cleaning Pen +Dust Blower

Might aswell get a kit lol

Yeah. I only got the pen as I wasn't sure what to get when I originally bought a Canon 300D, many moons ago. It's been such a good buy. The brush is great for getting dust out of nooks and crannies, and the rear end has a kind of cleaning pad on it which you use on lenses.

Is the cloth your using a lint free cloth? that's all I use, damp it slightly. Works a treat :)

Got the cleaning kit this morning with special anti fog alcohol spray and well it made so many swirl marks i could see it without using any blue light. I used the lint free cleaning cloths and the special lens cleaning cloth and it made no difference. I decided to use a different material cloth actually i used my clean shirt which had a harder fabric and it pretty much cleaned it right up.

Going to leave it alone now , but still these polarizer's are a biatch to clean !

I avoid using any liquids on any glass, or even monitors. Monitors I use tissue dabbed in water, and lenses and filters I go out of my way to keep clean, but if they do get dirty I let them dry then use the lenspen :)

Oh and my lenspen has gone walkies, thanks to my cat. Little bugger.

I don't know what kind of blower that is, but if it isnt a rocket (rocket shaped like the giotto one, they have extra valve power!) blower I wouldnt use it in my camera. FYI.

As for cleaning cirpols, I had the same trouble, lint free cloths just moved grease around, and even seemed to add some. It didn't affect the photo so I didn't worry, I just got rid of the dust and left it at that.
