Think about it... If you need to turn the taps on and off with your hands, and use one of those rotating towels, or a blow drier, not washing your hands after using the bathroom (assuming you use a urinal) must be so much more hygenic than washing 'em...

think about it - your **** has been in contact with nothing throughout the day & urine is sterile whereas your hands have been opening doors, handling money, exposed to the elements etc...

That's why I always dash out without drying my hands (after washing) before the door closed (when someone came in/out of the toilet)

I open the door with a tissue, my sleeve, or if it comes to it and I'm both tissue and sleeveless, my little finger.

always wash, never bother drying them though. I am a bit funny about touching the door handle as well, if i'm feeling particularly bothered i'll use my sleeve.

Anyone know why the doors in the bogs open inwards. Since there generally isn't any other way out of the bogs surely for safety reasons the door should open the other way?

Urine is sterile but skin is not. So you're OK if someone else holds your **** and you pee on your hands, but not if you're doing the holding. The urine angle is a red herring. Put crudely, your **** is too close to your rectum. Close enough for bacteria to spread.

I try to minimise the amount of hand contact. Turn the taps off with my shirt and kick the door in or cover my hand. Thought I was the only that did it.

That's a good point. I've known cases in which someone has collapsed in a toilet cubicle and slumped up against the door. This makes it very difficult for the paramedics to get to them.

My guess is that it's down to the cheap and flimsy construction of toilet cubicles. They're bolted rather than locked and the bolt, obviously, needs to be on the inside. The cheapest way to do that with a flimsy construction is to have the door overlap the frame, on the inside of the frame.
