Be Broadband

Can anyone give me an estimate of the speed i should get for LLU?

Its wierd cause over the past 6 months my connection has went down. I use to be able to download constant at around 280-300Kbps. But now i get max of 210Kbps. I have put a ticket to ADSL24 about it, but they say its a stuck IP Profile and BT never really do much about them and when they do it takes forever.

How long did it take Be to deliver your be box? As I am meant to be getting activated tomorrow
according to the email they sent me but they have only dispatched the Be Box today.

I am concerned about having no broadband while the bebox is sent out.

Your attenuation is very high, thats why you're only connecting at 2mbit....

From the phonecall where you sign up I would say 3-4 days to arrive, very prompt!

Well I have just received an email saying that my delivery has been delayed so looks like I might be without the internet for a couple of days.

Does anyone have a link for setting up 3rd party routers on BE. I currently have a Netgear DG834

EDIT - Looks like its going to be a slight problem using a 3rd party router as I selected to have a static IP and until I get the welcome kit I will not have Static IP to enter into the router :(

Hmmm, I been through the sign up process four times now (me and clients) and the Be-Box has always arrived before the activation date.

I suspect maybe there has been a massive rush of people signing up to BE (O2?) and they can't supply enough Be-Boxes?

[edit] Does O2 use a Be-Box or is it called an O2-Box lol? :D

Then you should recieve it tomorrow then, they use the home delivery network on a next day delivery. Needs a signature also.

This is the exact reason I left adsl24, stuck profiles that never get resolved. Oh and BE being way faster and way cheaper also helped :)

Which kind of faceplate do you have?

http://www.adslnation.com/support/extensions.php

on mine I only have 2 wires connected...#2 and #5

Mine is like the one on that site, but i just opened it up and its different inside (sorry for crap quality, phone camera):

Inside:

Notice the numbers on this one /\. There are no wires going to them, only to what looks like to a fuse on the inside picture.

Well I'm going to let someone else help you out from here...I've only lived in the UK for a year and am not too familiar with these BT box thingies. Someone else should be able to give you some advice.

I've been living it up for a few months with Virgin Media cable 20mb service with awesome download speeds etc but moving back into my girlfriends house in a few days where we have a lowly 1mb ADSL (Zen) connection.
Sadly there is no cable in the vicinity.

The line stats there are pretty shoddy since we are almost 4km away from the exchange.
Connection Speed: 1152kbs
Line Attenuation: 56db
Noise Margin: 6db

According to BT's (& others) availability checkers my line is apparently capable of a 2mb connection. A couple of other availability checkers (DSL Zone etc) reckon I ought to be able to get between 2 & 4mb with ADSL2+.
I rung Be a few days ago to see if they could give me some kind of estimate but the girl on the other end of the phone just said the most they could promise was 0.8mb because of how far away from the exchange we are. I guess I just have to go for it and see what I end up with.

I'm totally gutted at having to lose my fast cable connection but I'm gonna ditch Zen & sign up with Be. If I can get somewhere in the region of 2 - 3mb it will be an improvement. Just hope Be don't end up bringing in any draconian traffic-shaping policies any time soon.

PS. I wish I could find a website that would tell you which localities are ear-marked for future cable installation. Anyone got any ideas?

With that SNR margin, there's no way you'd get 2Mbps and you'd be extremely unlikely to get any more out of Be. As for future cable expansion, stick about:blank into your browser.

Transferring from BT to BE.

Can anyone confirm if the transfer process automatically cancels your BT account?

Yesterday I requested MAC code from BT Business Broadband (but specifically said I did not want to cancel the account). I was told the MAC code was valid until 17-Apr-08 and that was that.

On the BE site I requested their service, gave details including MAC code and received confirmation messages. The account status is currently:

"Scheduling your activation: Your line activation has been scheduled"

Great.

But at 22:17 last night I get an email from BT:

This email is to confirm that we’ve received a request to end your BT Business Total Broadband service....Date service will end 28/03/2008

Now who did they receive a request to end from? It wasn't me as I made it clear I wanted the MAC to move but did not want the account cancelled.

28/03/2008 is the date BE have said I will receive router and welcome pack. So did BE initiate the cancelling of the BT account? Or are BT being difficult here?

That all sounds perfectly fine Frank. You will most likely be activated on the 28th and as such your connection with BT will be terminated. I got a similar e-mail from ADSL24 as soon as I gave BE my MAC code.

Once the trasfer to BE is complete you should get another e-mail from BT saying that your account with them is now closed and you will no longer be billed.
