Just a quick question really, got a new grfx card this morning and was wondering if I need to put power into both sockets on the card. Its a Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb. I didnt get any adapters and only have one on the psu :(

Yes, you will need to use two sockets or it won't boot. If your PSU doesn't have two 6 pin PCI-E connectors then you may as well upgrade your PSU as it may not be up for the job when the system is fully loaded. My 8800 comes with two PCI-E adapters but I would rather use PSU's.

Might be able to get hold of 8 pin PSU cable? Enermax sent me a red PCI-I+ black PSU connector to 8 pin PCI-E. Saves using molex to PCI-E 8 pin...which perhaps isn't the best method, as the voltage rails on the drive rails probably isn't as high current?

Hey Guys, The card I have has 2 x 6pin plugs (Its the OcUK GTX) but after careful measuring My case is not big enough so maybe this would be a good time to sort both the case and the psu out. Thanks for the help guys, that Corsair jobby looks like it should do the job.

Thanks again, Regards

C

Sorry have to disagree with that...

Its got nothing to do with the power really. Its more to do with how old the PSU is. I've got an OCZ 620w PureStream and that "only" has 1 PCI-E connector, but that PSU is quite capable of doing SLI if needs be...

You just need an adaptor, they cost about £2 and take 2 x 4 pin molex -> 1 x 6 pin PCI-E...

Just make sure you run the 1 molex from each 12v rail on your PSU if possible, if your PSU is modular, if not, don't worry.
