HDMI on the 9800X2/9600 GT - sound?

Just wondering if the HDMI output carries the sound source as well as the video?

I have a 3rd HDMI port on my TV and would be nice to hook it up PC with sound

That appears to be the case. I think if they could do sound over HDMI they wouldn't need the optical audio ports on them

Only AMD's 3800 series cards carry the sound over the HDMI as well.

That's the claim - given their record on the 2xxx series I'd tread carefully
