I have an essay to hand in for thursday and its total rubbish.

Our lecturer is the sort of guy who will never use 1 word if 25 will do, and the wording of the questions he has given us to choose from reflects this. I have been staring at the 3 possible questions for an hour and am no closer to being able to work out what he is on about than when I started.

The main issue arises from being asked to write essays about a concept he didn't explain in lectures, only told us would become clear when we did the reading. Unfortunatly it appears to be a concept he has invented himself and his papers don't explain it properly at all.

Whats annoying me more is the questions are for us to basically peer review the research concept he came up with so we can find holes in it, basically doing his work for him.

I already dislike him immensely for stating that in the aftermath of natural disasters we should withold aid in order to institute social change in societies he has abitarily decided need changing, which is a very dangerous idea bordering on imperialism.

If you dislike his ideas and concepts enough you could write an essay on that instead :p

Probably won't get you many marks mind.

I would love to, but I can't afford to chuck away the marks since its my final year.

I shall give an interpretation of the 3 questions:

1. Compare my idea with the most widely accepted paradigm, tell me why my idea is better.
2. Tell me how my idea makes explaining peoples reactions to events easy.
3. Tell me how the other major paradigms are wrong.

Yeah they have been saying the same things about it being extremely hard to work out what this concept is and agrreing with the simplified questions.

People have finished the essay but from my understanding (and theirs) they haven't really answered the question.

Starting an essay 2 days before the hand in? Sounds like you are chucking away the marks already!

Its only 2000 words, I admit I'd be getting a 1st if I could be bothered any more but I'll settle for a 2:1.

Give us the questions damnit.

The questions are too identifying, and I don't know enough about the bloke to say for sure that he doesn't read these boards.

I know several of our lecturers do.

Well best of luck getting a 2:1 in two days if you need to go and do some research... :p

On a side note, a girl from my course still hasn't handed in her dissertation 2 days after the hand in date... what on earth is she playing at!

I know :D

Stock up on the redbull ;)

Not needed, 12hours is easily long enough to read enough papers to write a decent essay, probably could do it in 6 but I don't like to work too hard.

I wrote a 4000 word essay last year in about 14 hours and got 85%, which I thought was well done. I am known for starting an essay at 5pm the day before its due in and finishing at about 3:30am and doing fairly well, I have never cared enough to start an essay more than 2 days before (appart from my dissertation) its my biggest flaw, and so far I have revised for 2 uni exams in 2 years (I gave each exam 4 hours of my valuable time).

What course are you doing out of curiosity? There is absolutely no way I could get away with that

I don't want him to know I have been slagging him off (since he is marking this essay, an exam and my dissertation), and it would be fairly easy for him to identify who I am from information on these boards.

I'm the same - it's done ok at the moment (high 2:1) but I cannot help wonder how much better I could have done had I spent all my life in the library like some people and not posting on here :p
