It's Arrived - Art. Lebedev Studio Optimus Maximus Keyboard

Can the keyboard be customized for games? like play pong on it, with the ball going from key to key, or minesweeper which you actully press the keys instead of clicking on the screen.

I'm not slagging off the guy for buying it, but why does it cost £800?? 4 pages and there's no clear explanation why.

In case you didn't already know, there is an OLED display built into each key. Every key can be programmed to display something different. A plugin for the keyboard for Photoshop, for example, might allow say, the number pad keys to display various tools instead of the usual numbers. For gaming, the key you map to say, throw grenades, could show little grenade icon, and so on.

As for why all the above costs £800- no idea :p

The reason why it costs £800 is just down to production run since they wont have made many and need to cover the outlay. Even though OLED technology is relatively expensive it doesnt work out to be nearly £8 a key...

If they decide demand is enough to produce it again hopefully theyll do more numbers which should reduce the overall cost significantly...

ps3ud0

It's only £800,

Then if it's ""only"" £800 you can throw some cash my way?

The reason why people think its ridiculous is because it gives no benefit over a normal keyboard. Its basically an £800 gimick. £40000 on a BMW is hardly extortionate if its a nice one and so is a poor example, a better way would be saying that you paid for a P reg Ford Fiesta with chromatic paint for about fifty grand.

ocuk is primarily for hardware and software aficionados imho, ukdave qualifies with flying colours. I feel responsible for some of the not so encouraging posts on this thread as I linked to it from a post in the GD forum (lesson learned). Look forward to more pics ukdave, and five stars for you sir.

Can the people slagging him off go get a job or something and stop being jealous so that is blatently whats happening

It's just silly with all the negative comments.

And if you ask me £800 isn't too bad for it, its cool and that costs money.

to OP - Can you post a video of the keyboard in action.

Since most won't ever have this, we'll be relying on you for info.

Secondly how heavy are the keys? I know the G15 ones are ultra light and lovely to press, I'm guessing that having screens on them is going to make them heavy

sid

Will make the keys heavy and clanky, using them with any sort of regular speed owuld be impossible, especially as there is no space between them.

Also this is OCUK, overclockers, high performance systems. Everyone wants the best performance/cost ratio and push it further. £800 for a peripheral on what is probably a Dell, well money better spent elsewhere.

Have you used the keyboard? You might think it logical that it will add weight to have OLED screens and make the keys heavy and clanky but it doesn't automatically follow that it does do so.

Not at all, some people want the best price/performance ratio while others simply want the best performance, the cheapest price, the quietest system, the most reliable or any combination of those factors (and more). It does not follow that simply by posting on OcUK that everyones aims are the same - go into GD or SA and check how many of them are interested in high performance hardware - you'll probably find a good deal of them have little to no interest any more.

Keyboard looks excellent Dave.

Can't understand why people are moaning about the price, if you dont think its worth the price then thats down to you. If I had £800 to spend on a keyboard, i'd certainly get this one :p

Exactly to some people £800 a mere few minutes work. Everyone hasdiffrent priorities and financial situations. Yes it's stupidly expensive. But it's a great piece of kit and has many good uses.

It's not designed for any kind of typing whatsoever, from the manufacturers description, it's very clear from the placement of the keys how they will react, there is zero space between them. It's basically a one key at a time job.

The ONLY area i could see it actually being half useful is in my very profession and trust me, when you need to do engineering drawings fast, it probably would hinder more than anything.

It's not a dig, i do the same thing, buy something for asthetics. And in that, guess it's very nice. Not a fan of the plastic white case though, like someone said, aluminium would be the least you'd expect.

They PAY you nowadays?!!

What the hell?!

I'm still paying off my student loan at £6 per month, which covers interest lol. £30 a week would have paid my drinking habit, but then again, 100% attendance, not in my lifetime!

I go 12 hours 4 days a week you only need 100% for the 12 classes :) and if you have over 95% at xmas you get a £100 bonus

And your Q6600 goes faster than mine, dam student CPU's!!

I still wouldn't do that, i made maybe half that per week, my attendance overall was nearer 30% lol.
