9800GTX pushed back

I doubt it's true, SLI users amount for a very small percentage of users so I very much doubt they will delay launch because of that, they released they GX2 without quad support afterall.

I think it is, as without TRi SLi support the card is dead in the water and should be canned, that is the main selling point of these cards, as you have to remember these are just 8800 GTS 512mb's, with an extra SLi connector added so they can be tripled, instead of what they can do today, which is only paired, so if they can't be tripled, then theres no point releasing them, as you can already buy them today for £158 and pair them in SLi here :-

Theres not going to be many ppl wanting to pay £100+ extra for that card in a weeks time, prices go down, not up. :p

The strange thing about the 9800GTX, it there looks to be absolutley no reason whatsoever to even consider it, unless your deffo gonna use tri-SLI....

Why would they make such a niche product? are we all unaware of some other hidden reason for its existence?

I was looking to buy this, as a more value-for money option, but now I think I will opt for the GX2 instead.

NVidia's mid-high end lineup is too muddled at the moment. 8800GS, 8800GT (256/512mb), 8800GTS (old and new 320/512/640/1024mb) 8800GTX, 8800Ultra, 9600GT, 9800GTX, 9800GX2.

There is no point of introducing new cards that are just retweaked versions of an already fat lineup. Give us something new or don't bother.

Agree 100% !

I've put my build off now until crimbo due mainly to Nvidia messing around bringing slightly faster cards out. Really hope ATI kick them up the arse!

thats right, its only for TRi SLi, so if your not bothered about that, then you just buy the card now for £158, instead of waiting till it can be TRi SLi'd and paying about £300. :)

Thing is though, eventually we will be forced into buying the 9800. If there simply not selling 8800GTS anymore, the argument of buying the 8800 instead becomes mute. Your not gonna find them....

Then again, by the time that happens, they will probably be brining out that proper next gen card. Wtf are they actually doing in there :/
