As title.

I'm in need of a big-ish tent to sleep 4 guys. I have no idea what to look for really, but it MUST cost less than £80 delivered. I need something that will comfortably fit us all in with all our gear, so a porch is a must aswell.

I've been looking on eBay and see that there are plenty of 'no-name' tents there which seem of dubious quality. I think I want to avoid these as I suspect they're trash. Ideally then, I'm looking for something from a season or two ago that is heavily reduced from a good manufacturer.

Any suggestions?

Four man tent for ~ £80 = what you've found i.e. dubious quality; you need to seriously up your budget for anything half decent I'm afraid.

Good luck.

Okay, well something not utterly cack then, just slightly dubious. I'm not going up a mountain with it, just want something that will last a while and not leak like a sieve. :)

It might be worth looking in your local free ads paper or on Gumtree/Craigslist if they have a page for your location.

If you are buying new then £80 is really use and then forget about it territory.

hm i wasnt aware tents went out of season, unless they were literally the pinacle of tent technology? then i assume they would still be hefty price tags.
You will find a lot of noname things around these days can be similar quality to various brand's lower model things for a fraction of the price, what do the reviews seem like? maybes dont look on ebay and look for a discount shop. Do sportsworld sell tents?

if theres 4 of you then i'd advise to get a 6 or 8 man tent. After a very unpleasant few nights of sharing a 4man with 3 rugby players i think you should should look bigger unless you like the idea of becoming 1 flesh. look at the hieght of the tent also. theres nothing worse than not being able to stand up in a tent.

I've had a cunning(ish) plan. I already have a 3 man tent, so will consoder that storage + 2 men. I'll try to find a larger/better one to accompany it.

For £80 the best you can hope for is a large sheet of plastic.

Buy £80's worth of bin bags and a sewing kit.

And ebay tents? You better hope it doesn't rain. ;)

As I said, I picked up a Sunncamp Kashmir 400 for £70 all-in. It seems to sell from £150-250, so it should be better than most of the other stuff I was looking at for the same kind of price. I hope.

How much would a good 4 man tent cost?

From top of the range to mid?

a few hundred to start with.

Depends though. A light weight hurricane proof one for everest base camp? Or a English countryside in summer tent?
Somewhere to crash for the night, or somewhere livable for a few weeks vacation.

Just somewhere livable for a weekend away really.
