William Hague for Prime Minister

Gotta love Boris Johnson though :D hope he ousts RED ken

Easy to say but I live in London and I think Ken hasn't done a bad job. To me the main issue is transport and I think there's been progress, Boris talks the talk on transport too but I'm not sure if he'd really deliver. Surprisingly I'm leaning towards voting for Ken (must be getting more liberal as I'm getting older)

I was just watching (don't ask why) a re-run of PQs and it seemed, everything William Hague chucked at Tony Blair, he couldn't answer. Don't get me wrong, I thought Blair was a great political leader. Even more so compared to Brown.
However, Hague just nailed every topic at PQs.
- Foriegn Policy
- NHS
- Education
- Budget
- Reforms

Blair was struggling at every PQs when going agianst Hague. I think, if William Hague became leader of the Tory party, and he was in charge, we'd go far. :)

You mean they have made a whole bunch of promises before elections, just like labour do, and 99% likely hood they will not do a single one of them after they get elected.

Butchering the local roads, and replacing them with unused pavement and bus lanes? Really impressive...and ironically enough the tube is still more expensive than driving into central London (provided you're not in the £25 bracket).

Central london is quieter, there are more buses and driving to work would cost me £8 (in addition to petrol, insurance, tax), tube costs me about £4 and is quicker.

From where? You obviously live closer in than me.

clapham for me (so the very edge of zone 2), but seriously, even if you take all those things as true (and I disagree) it's not like Boris is actually proposing many changes. re-phasing traffic lights and more cycle lanes seem to the concrete points. a no strike deal with the tube drivers which will never happen and he's stupid to make a commitment on, not to mention an odd promise to look again at air-conditioning the tube (never mind the dozen studies in the last couple of decades which said time and again it can't be done on the deep lines)

I used to work there. But yes, for you it would make more sense to use public transport, since Clapham is a rail hub as well as having plenty of buses.

In other words, more of the same **** we've had under Labour. I'm not expecting any mainstream politician as mayor to be an improvement though.

Wouldn't be worth it, its only ever that bad for 2-3 hours of the day.

I dunno, the northern line is fairly unpleasant all day during the summer, it'd be worth it easily there but the small tunnels mean there's nowhere to dissipate the heat from an air conditioning unit. It's just a populist promise that will never happen.

Are there any non mainstream candidates??

I've only used the Northern once so can't really say...however, I can bet the Piccadilly to\from Heathrow is far busier at peak times (and I did okay, it starts to empty after Acton Town).

There were a couple of independents listed, I'm looking into their backgrounds.

I don't know to be honest, generally my experience is, assuming 8-15 in the morning or so, the first 3 or 4 trains will be too busy to get on, and even then you'll be jammed into the corner for 30 minutes once you do get on. Explains why I either go in at 7 (get a seat, read the paper) or stay in bed till 9.

The independents don't stand much chance of course, ken or boris will win. My thinking is simply that (in the ways which i care about at least) their policies are indistinguishable, so I may as well go with the proven track record.

The media ignores anyone but the big three, thats why. But it doesn't hurt to try...
