Just watching Ramsays kitchen nightmares on C4 and I feel pretty sick!

For anyone that didn't see it:
The restaurant was full of flies, terrible food etc....He then went into the kitchen, which was infested with cockroaches, rats, flies and moldy food. Absolutely disgusting.

I dine out every so often, however seeing this makes me wonder what I'm actually eating and how clean the kitchen is. It also makes me wonder how these things are monitored by the authorities.

the US series had been dire, every episode the same and so obviously staged

I think Ramsey is starting to push his luck a bit far, the F word was poor too, he needs to be more selective or folks will get sick of him

I am watching it at 11, missed the start unfortunately.

EDIT: Rotty, I actually think the US series has been great, admittedly over acted but it's very funny when he starts laying into the self obsessed Americans.

Amen, I believe it is common practice in some pubs for leftover salad to be transferred to a new dish going out, I'm a big fan of salad at home - but never eat it in cheap pubs, always mash up your salad!!

They havent even transformed the place the white sheets on the walls were obviously to make it look worse, then taking them down all of a sudden hes transformed it inot a fantastic looking indian. A bit lame IMO.

once maybe but every program is the same

turn up

**** the food

argue with chef/manager

big opening night, all going wrong but gets it right at last minute

Ramsey now mates with manager/chef and we all go home happy

I love the English version of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares but the American one is dire. Not due to anything on Ramsey's part, he's still excellent, it's the damn awful 'dumbed down for US television, explain everything in simple terms' voice-over that really irks me.

Still worth watching but no where near as good as the English one. Where's the chef competition, or any of the other bits which go into the English one. Which actually helps them form a team bond and inspire themselves. He doesn't even take them out to get local produce or anything in the American one.

I agree, I've never been a huge fan of Ramsay. The UK version of the show was ok, but they've went a bit ott in the US.

OT: I can't understand why all US TV series MUST have that silly camera panning. You know where the cameras start off high in the air and then move down towards the door of the restaurants.

Anyway...

It showed you them taking the place apart and then redecorating.

The state of the kitchen was still sickening...does anyone know how often or in which way kitchens in the UK are regulated by health and safety authorities?

Agreed. Although the first US episode (with the guy who thought he was in the mafia) was great simply for the comedy value.

When I've worked in 4star kitchen I think it was once a year the chef told me. But we also had rentokill people in every week checking traps etc.. It's really down to the chef in charge how tidy the kitchen is as it's him who tells people to clean and makes sure it is done properly.

They're supposed to check restaurants once a year although if you've got a good record you may not see them for near enough 2 years. Similarly if you've got a bad reputation they'll be back every few months.

The ratings that the health inspectors give are now published online so before you go somewhere you can check how clean it is :)
